We visited Cherbourg over Easter. The town was buzzing on Easter Saturday with the food market and people out having drinks...very nice. Unfortunately in the evening there seemed to be a lack of restaurants open with the exception of a few high end places. We ate in the casino & also at our hotel, the Mecure. It's a nice place and a good location to see any D Day beaches/museums. You will need a car.

A really interesting town, great art gallery, and lots of places to visit around the town. It would have been good to stay longer but the weather was pretty bad so two nights were enough.
The extensive road works around the harbour totally confused our satnav and the temporary one way systems were pretty difficult to negotiate.
Loads of choice of restaurants all prices.

We have friends in Cherbourg and will continue to visit.
We have friends in Cherbourg and will continue to visit. But for British visitors, the strange pattern of Brittany Ferries' service from Portsmouth or Poole is a great deterrent for a visit to the Cotentin! Extraordinarily, the service from Portsmouth is one day per week - so you either stay for three hours to return on the same ship, or you stay for one week, or you have a long drive to and/or from Ouistreham.
The only advantage of this, from our point of view, is that it tends to keep some visitors away from the calm and peace of the Cotentin peninsular. We enjoy the lack of crowds - Maybe the Cotentin is a secret worth keeping!

Despite Major road works in progress Cherburg, getting around by car is quite easy. Walking around the town is a pleasurable experience and the harbour walks are must at sunset. Nightlife makes the narrow streets very congested at times and the noise level can disturb your sleep if your hotel is in the main socialising street areas.

Unless you have to visit Cherbourg don’t visit and stay at the moment as they are undergoing a massive refurb and building work is EVERYWHERE and nearly all roads are closed. I will visit again though as people are so lovely. But probably not until 2025.

The room was in a poor state of repair and offered no comfort whatsoever. In comparison to staying in this type of place before this is a poor example. It does have the proximity to the Ferry port in it's favour and the hotel was quiet at nice, however it was late in the year. Feel it's very much a workers place to stay, hence the no frills. I don't believe the room we stayed in justified the price. Toilet seat held up with a piece of velcro.

great location, friendly staff. Was good for us as a family as had interconnected rooms.
Good breakfast in morning for money - kids are for free.
we stayed only one night as used it as a base for the ferry, but the town seems lovely and lively. good dinner options, lovely marina and if we’d been there earlier we would have gone on the big wheel. it was busy when we arrived (for food in the town), so we ate in the Thai restaurant which was fab.
there is a bar in hotel for a night cap too.
So I have stayed in 2018 next door at the Ibis hotel. I wanted the same hotel as I had before but I made the mistake of booking the Ibis Budget hotel next door. I was here doing research for a book I am writing on the German defenses of the second world war in the Cherbourg area as I was in 2018 and needed to take more photographs so the location was ideal. The staff were fantastic. Everyone was very kind and accommodating for the most part.
The hotel was beautiful , very clean and the staff were extremely helpful and also welcoming for our dog. The beds and pillow were particularly comfortable which we really appreciated after a long journey. We asked the staff for assistance with taxis and some other questions and they were quick to help. Breakfast buffet was perfect, if we are ever in cherbourg again this is our first choice.
Friendly hotel staff with easily accessible free and stress-free parking adjacent to the hotel: Ideal for onward travel. Self-service breakfast 'hit the spot' and the rooms were quiet, comfortable, well furnished and clean. Good location for getting some fresh air along the harbour wall and only a short walk to the town centre.
Beautiful location overlooking the port. Easy access to parking. Warm greeting on arrival - staff were very pleasant and friendly. Very clean and comfortable rooms with a Nespresso coffee machine which I made full use of the next morning. Breakfast was tasty and plenty of choice. Highly recommend this hotel!
It was perfect for the price. Great location, comfortable room, nice breakfast. But the reason we would highly recommend the hotel is because of the truly wonderful staff. They were so welcoming and thoughtful. They also rescued us from an unfortunate transport issue, for which we were truly grateful.
Location - decor - facilities - amazingly quiet for the area - WiFi - Netflix - very clean - shops close by - bus stop a block away.....what more can one ask, much better than the B&B Hotels I've been to in Cherbourg - it's a self-catering apartment, so no brekkies, just a stroll away?
Lovely modern and functional apartment located in a quiet area.
Secure building with reserved (outside) parking.
Spacious bedroom with huge wardrobe to fully unpack.
Plenty of outlets and good lighting.
Practical coatrack with bench in entry.
Large TV with Netflix.
Location is excellent. We arrived by train and walked about 5 minutes to the hotel. Getting to the ferry port was also easy. It is also very close to lots of restaurants, shops and places to visit like La Cité de la Mer (which is a great place to visit)
The proximity of the apartment to the shops and restaurants and the Cherbourg marina.
The apartment was very well fitted out and comfortable . Two double bedrooms. Very quiet location. Only 25 minutes walk from Ferry Terminal.
I like to stay in small hotels with the touch of the owners care and enthusiasm. Hotel Moderna is certainly such a place. Very nice people providing advices and support with the personal service I needed all the way through.
Great overnight stop in Cherbourg before catching ferry to UK. Pet friendly and a large open area for dogs across from hotel. Lovely location on the harbour. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Hotel was close to Cherbourg ferry port, 10 mins drive. Check-in was by key pad and hotel is laid out as apartments. Plenty of space for 4 and close to restaurants. Room was nice and cool.
Excellent service, a very kind lady at the reception who is always ready to help and a very nicely decorated hotel.
If we go through Cherbourg again, we will definitely stay there again.
