Experience a bygone era of luxury at this former royal palatial mansion, where unrivalled comfort and heritage combine to create renowned hospitality.
The grandeur and mystique of one of the royal families of Rajasthan can be experienced at the Raj Palace, where spacious suites, fine royal antiques and stunning public rooms are just a hint of what is on offer – here you can stay amid the crystal chandeliers and luxurious fabrics of rooms that were once occupied by members of the royal family.
Combining contemporary facilities with the most authentic decor, a stay at the Raj Palace is almost a holiday in itself.
The Raj Palace is the oldest mansion in Jaipur and is a beautiful blend of Mughal and Periodic architecture. In 1995 the Princess Jayendra Kumari Ji decided to transform this luxurious palace into one of the country’s finest luxury hotels. The arched corridors were renovated; the residential quarters and courtyards were expanded; the finest facilities and disabled access were added. Collections of fine royal antiques are displayed throughout the hotel, including within many of the suites.
The Raj Palace offers a number of opportunities for dining and refreshment:
Swapna Mahal:
Formal receptions remained a central activity of royal life during the British period. For this reason, the Thakur Sahib made the Swapna Mahal (which translates as ‘The Palace of Dreams’). Imitating the great houses of the British and French nobility, this hall is completely fitted out with European furniture. The high ceiling has breathtaking crystal chandeliers and silk curtained panels. These are complemented by several beautiful arches and coloured glass.
Today, the Swapna Mahal is the restaurant of The Raj Palace. Every aspect of the restaurant is so elegantly designed that you may feel you are actually present at a state banquet. Serving various types of cuisine, the Swapna Mahal is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The Kebab Shop:
Offering barbecues and a variety of dishes ranging from kebabs to biryanis (meat and vegetarian), The Kebab Shop is open daily for a dinner of Mughlai delicacies.
The Royal Lounge:
This coffee shop was once where Thakur Sahib met his officials for small meetings and breaks. Completely fitted out with royal furniture, the Royal Lounge has beautiful arches, decorated in tones of pink, green and gold. The floor is embellished with Italian marble. Afternoon tea is served here each day, with a variety of cakes and sandwiches complemented by the finest selection of signature French coffees and freshly infused teas.
Shikarbadi:
Shikarbadi, the former royal pavilion and current hotel bar, is adorned with rare artefacts, memorabilia and leather upholstered furniture from the West to create a dramatic old world charm. In the finest tradition of Rajput hospitality, the Shikarbadi offers its guests a taste of royal living, with choice wines, spirits and liquors served in a location that has seen much royalty and important dignitaries over the centuries.
A selection of prestige suites, historical suites, heritage rooms and superior rooms are all available. Each integrates modern facilities into a world of rich heritage.
Prestige suites were once used by guests of the royal family, including The Crown Prince, the Maharani Sahiba and wives of Thakur Sahib. Each is a suite which aims to recreate the comfort and elegance of past royal luxury.
The historical suites were once occupied by royal dignitaries of the Thikanas (feudal lords), as well as the wife of The Crown Prince and other senior members of the royal family. These large suites have excellent views and are laid with the finest Italian Marble. The bathrooms have the latest design and technology. A number of antique royal furniture pieces are used.
Heritage rooms were previously used to entertain Thakur Sahib, as well as for recreation by junior members of the royal family and other royal guests. Each has an individual feel and combines the finest materials, such as silk and rare woods. Many contain furniture and artifacts created by master craftsman.
The superior rooms remain true to the spirit of the Raj Palace, with each offering a harmonious blend of modern convenience and ethnic royal charm. Double or twin options are both available, with all being of a comfortable size.
The Raj Palace is an extremely convenient place to stay during your visit to Jaipur. Situated between 4 main palace complexes (Amer, Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort and the City Palace), it is a short distance from many of the local sightseeing and shopping opportunities. Situated on the main Jaipur to Delhi road and only 500 metres from the Jaipur to Agra road, The Raj Palace is also an ideal stop-over point for those touring the region.
