One of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, picturesque Maastricht has an international feel. Not only can you walk to Belgium and bike to Germany, this town also gave birth to the European Union and euro currency following the 1992 Maastricht Treaty.
Its largest square – Vrijthof – houses the twin churches of St. Jan and St. Servaas, a theater and several sidewalk cafes. Various festivals and the Magic Maastricht Christmas markets are also held here. Markt square is home to the Flemish-style town hall, a twice-weekly market and even more restaurants and bars offering great nightlife.
The excellent shopping options in Maastricht include unique shops on the cobbled Old Town streets, exclusive boutiques on Stokstraat, and the Entre Deux and Mosae Forum shopping centers. Dotted among these is Booking.com’s wide range of Maastricht accommodations.
Well-preserved city walls surround the Old Town and run close to the Maas River where boat trips are available. Underground are the Casemates, a visitable maze of defensive tunnels used in times of siege, while on the city’s outskirts are the St. Pietersberg Caves, former World War II shelters with intriguing wall art.
Before flying out of Maastricht Aachen Airport, don’t miss the fine art by Rubens and Van Dyck in the Bonnefanten Museum, a modern building reflecting the area’s pottery heritage.
It has a very bright and cozy Christmas atmosphere.
It has a very bright and cozy Christmas atmosphere. Beautiful historical areas. There are many parks and green areas to walk through. A lot of hidden gems on the outskirts of the city - definitely worth hopping on the bus from one end to the other and discovering what lies outside of the city center. Must try the breakfast menu from Coffeelovers Plein 1992.

A grand historic location not overrun by tourists.
A grand historic location not overrun by tourists. Loved not having seen huge tour busses and gobs of people following your standardised tour guidess. One doesn't have to walk far to 'get lost' in quite narrow allayes without any tourists. I was actually surprised how peaceful the town was and we did visit it on a weekend. Hance the lack of tourists, maybe that is why it was so clean? The city also offers a pleasant shopping experience. The stores are nicely spread out in numerous streets, so that you can combine a historic tour with the occasional peek in a strore. Loved the city and would gladly return.

Maastricht is a hidden treasure and should be on everyones list to visit. The tours of the underground tunnels, the history of the town itself are all fascinating. The architecture is soooooo old and captivating, everywhere you look is history. You can walk anywhere around this beautiful little town and be awed by its beauty. The restaurants we tried were terrific and the staff full of characters and openly friendly people. I loved it. I will be coming back one day.

Fabulous town, found plenty to see for our weekend stay.
Fabulous town, found plenty to see for our weekend stay. With another day I would have booked to see the tunnels / caves just outside the town.
Great selection of restaurants and cafes. There was limited vegan food but I found enough choice for a 2 day stay. Definitely recommend visiting this town. Two days was perfect to see what we wanted but would need another day to include tunnels and caves

Absolutely beautiful city unlike any other Dutch city.
Absolutely beautiful city unlike any other Dutch city. I love every Dutch city but Maastricht has that French artistic vibe to it which is a beautiful mix. Lot of things to do in and around Maastricht. The Mabi City Centre Hotel and the Botel are the hotels I recommend the most. Maastricht is a really walkable city. I never had to take a bus within Maastricht! Delicious street food and beautiful markets. Various stores. Beautiful views
Unique location only 10min drive from Maastricht city centre. It is surrounded by fields, trails and quietness typical of the Dutch countryside. Karin and Frank are very welcoming and helpful. Rooms are well-equipped and nicely designed. Breakfast is good and is served individually every morning. Last but not least, magnificent garden with sofas, chairs, a table-tennis table and BBQ equipment, with a choice of wine, beers, and teas for a pleasant stay outside. Maastricht is easily accessible by car or bike.
If you want a boutique experience, look no further. The hôtelier has finely crafted this hotel. Sit on the patio and listen to the quiet traces of university life. Feel free to enjoy the light play in the early evening and Dutch design elements. Talk to the hotel manager and he can answer questions, give advice, inform you of what you did not know…The town of Maastricht is a lost emerald in the crown of Europe.
Absolutely lovely boutique hotel, with spacious, newly furbished rooms right in the city centre. All the city attractions are within short walking distance.
The buffet breakfast was very good, and the hospitality of the staff outstanding.
Wholeheartedly recommended!
Elegant and modern hotel, with very spacious rooms and beautiful decoration. It is literally a 2 min walk from the town hall square, in the heart of Maastricht. The staff were very kind and helpful and the breakfast was great. Highly recommended!
The hotel has everything needed for a short stay. The breakfast was really good. The hotel is in front of the central station and only 5 min away from the city centre. The hotel is surrounded by stores, bars and restaurants
We only stayed one night but the hotel exceeded our expectations. If you're looking like us for a quiet and well located place in Maastricht, this is the place for you.
The room was large with a river facing view, and the city centre was only a short walk away. Maastricht is definitely a great place to visit with lots to see.
The Kaboom Hotel is very near to the train station. The hotel provides a truly revamped concept of hospitality. Definitely a must stay when in Maastricht.
