Alkmaar surprised me in many ways, a beautiful place, with lots to see and do. Great cafes, restaurants, local shops. The people are very kind, I highly recommend visiting, I will definitely come back more often. From Amsterdam central station you can take the Intercity train, which takes around 30 minutes. I recommend the 1840 Foodbar restaurant and the Anne&Max café, both excellent.

We were lucky during our stay Alkmaar celebrated the 450 Years Ontzet from the Spaniards. The festivities were awesome. Alkmaar was very central for us in the Netherlands. We visited the great St Laurent church, Bergen, Bergen aan Zee, Egmond aan Zee, Amsterdam, Zaanse Schans, Den Helder and walked the beautiful parks in Alkmaar.

A lovely alternative to Amsterdam - the water courses around the city give the place a very special feel. And the people are very helpful and friendly. If you get a chance to, dine at Herren van Sonoy, a restaurant just a short walk away from the Grand Hotel Alkmaar on Gedempte Nieuwesloot.

If you want a mini-Amsterdam experience without the big city hassle, Alkmaar is the place to go. Very "Dutch" but on a much smaller scale than other cities. Lots of cute lanes to wander down, an amazing church, loads of cute coffee shops and artisan boutiques. Excellent bars and restaurants - and of course, a few canals and too many bikes!

It was great to stay in another part of the Netherlands...
It was great to stay in another part of the Netherlands other than Amsterdam. I would say it is more suited to couples, older people or families. There are some coffee shops but the feel of the town is much calmer and more chilled than Amsterdam. One of the pluses is that there is a great High street where you can find some little gems and some fantastic places to eat and drink.
Loved the bath, the large bed and spacious room.
very smart to provide earplugs for the guests not used to city sounds. we loved that the room was at the street side. on request a beautiful set of fresh flowers were present on arrival that really added to the room.
breakfast was very nice and personal.
every one of the hotel and bar staff we talked to had a great positive vibe. loved it.
the cocktails and finger food were amazing.
the location within Alkmaar is amazing. Great coffee and food places surrounding the hotel.
Wow! I traveled alone and loved this place. It is above a restaurant and the restaurant staff assisted with checking me in. I was on the 3rd floor (2nd for Europeans) and I was not bothered by any noise at night. The room was large, very comfortable and modern. First place I stayed during my entire trip where there was good functioning AC. I really enjoyed this hotel and the town it's in. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hope to return with my partner in the future.
The place was great. I would definitely come again in case I have to visit Alkmaar in the future. The only downside I can think of is that the heating is a bit slow. In our case we arrived in the evening and in the next day the temperature was comfortable. Anyways everything else was just perfect - the kitchen had everything you can think of, the beds were comfortable, the living area was superbly designed, clean and tidy.
Really nice location near the shopping area of Alkmaar. The unit is super nice with a great kitchen, living area, bed, bathroom, and great view of the city. The hosts were wonderful and very accommodating. They helped me quickly get my laundry done, gave me an excellent breakfast in the morning, and even insisted on driving me to the train station in the morning! I would love to stay again and definitely recommend.
Great location, a short walk to the old town centre with plenty of restaurants, but still nice and quiet. Room to securely leave our bikes. In fact, one of the best aspects was that we could park our car for the weekend in a nearby carpark and travel around on foot and by bike. We even cycled to beach that's only about 10km away. Loved Alkmaar and would happily stay again at Studio Schipper.
We loved the city of Alkmaar and the location of this hostel/hotel is perfect! It’s right in the middle of the beautiful citycenter. We booked a tour with a canalbike by the reception of the kings inn, this is an absolute must! The view from the water is stunning and it’s very fun to explore the city like this. The staff is very friendly and helpful and breakfast is delicious!
We had a wonderful stay an Com-In recently.
We were traveling by car and needed a convenient place to park , while having easy walking access to the city. Com-In has that , but the apartment is also very well appointed and well thought out. Our host was very friendly and welcoming!
Highly recommended stay and a great base to explore Alkmaar from!
Wow, what an amazing stay at this little gem in Alkmaar! We loved exploring the city, day-tripping to Amsterdam and coming home to this comfortable and cozy hotel. The staff were incredible and so friendly, welcoming and on top of everything. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique and beautiful experience in Holland!
The location of the Grand Hotel Alkmaar is superb—right in the center of Alkmaar and close to restaurants, shops, parking, and the cheese market. The staff was wonderful—warm, helpful, and gracious. Breakfast featured lots of choices and a great coffee machine so that you could be your own barista.
Lovely room and close to the train station. Really comfy bed and duvets. A sink in the room and kitchen facilities. Had a nice garden view. Pleasant host. Not too long walk from Alkmaar centrum.
Would stay here again and it's value for the money.
We really enjoyed our stay in Alkmaar and the apartment was perfect in every way, facilities, location and the staff were very helpful. 😊
We highly recommend the RITCH Hotel Alkmaar to anyone who is looking for a great place to stay in Alkmaar.
It’s a old jailhouse, but renovated to a first class hotel. They have kept as much as possible of the old jail interior.
When you walk up to your room it looks and feels like a real jail. They kept the old steel stairways, and steel cel doors.
Cozy botigue hotell in the old town of Alkmaar, close to the cheese market on Waagplein. Very good location and nice shopping streets with one of a kind stores outside the entrance. Excellent service, friendly staff and nice interior.
During planning, it was hard to determine the quality of this selection. The hotel is immaculate, well-staffed, well-located and provides a full selection breakfast. Even little things like loaner umbrellas were provided.
Excellent location near the Cheese market and the center of Alkmaar. Within 20 minute walk to the train station. Five minute walk to Jumbo grocery store. Nice common area with large tables. Cozy pub/restaurant attached.
The location was great, right in the middle of the city center and close to Alkmaar train station. The stuff was quite friendly and the bed comfortable.
