Casita Rica is affordable. It's remote and it's quiet, and for the things we wanted to experience in Huon Valley the location suited us. The sunrises from the property are really special, as are the local beaches/bays. The property is a decent size for two people and it's modern and decorated tastefully. It's warm enough in our opinion without the fire or heater going, but if you do use the fire it does get toasty. The stove and oven make for some nice home cooked meals. It's a nice and decent drive to places to dine.
With garden views, River Run Lodge is set in Strathblane and has a restaurant, a shared kitchen, bar, garden and barbecue.

Loved the tavern on property! Also the family/kitchen areas. This made for a great, recharging the parents, holiday! I wish we booked for more nights!!

Pros - We loved the scenic beauty and tranquility, the bird life (seagulls, black swans, cormorants, ducks etc), the coast and bays, the farms, bushland, nearby forests and caves, and spectacular sunrise.
The IGA was great to buy provisions.
Cons - We were there on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights and we didn’t want to cook dinner, but there was only one place open for dinner in Dover early in the week - the RSL.
The other eating places in Dover are only open for dinner for 2 or 3 nights between Thursday and Saturday. That was very disappointing.
We had take-away sushi from Masaaki’s at Geeveston on Sunday (superb) , dinner at Dover RSL on Monday (ok) and had to travel all the way to the Kermandie Hotel for dinner on Tuesday night (quite good).
Unfortunately there’s no bakery in Dover (just what’s at IGA).

Dover is a beautiful place that we were looking forward to enjoy😊
However the accommodation was poor , run down and untidy.😔 so we left😔😔
Avoid disappointment and avoid Castaway Cottages and Ocean View Cottages (dirty shower recess)

We wanted a relaxing 2 days in a quiet location.
We wanted a relaxing 2 days in a quiet location. That's exactly what we got, it was great. If we had wanted to go and visit local attractions, we were close enough to do that with a short drive.
The close proximity to the private beach and view over the bay was very peaceful.

This area and town are truly stunning.
This area and town are truly stunning. Beautiful views everywhere and the locals are so friendly. Whilst there make sure you visit the RSL - great food, views and very friendly people. Would visit again in a heartbeat. Its also a great spot to base yourself to visit other parts of the Huon Valley, such as Cygnet, Port Huon, Geeveston and the walks down south at Cockle Creek. Really special part of the world.

Nice little town to stay for a few days to visit the hot springs, Tahune Airwalk and wonder about by the beach. Great little pizza shop in town, as well as an IGA and a liquor store. Very relaxing place to stay. We stayed for 3 nights, it was the perfect length.
The location was superb being across the road from the beach and bay. We loved waking up to the sound of gentle waves and having such a beautiful view of Port Esperance Bay from the dining room...so relaxing. Castaway Cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and being pet friendly our little Sheltie was able to enjoy too. We will definitely be returning to this gorgeous cottage to explore more of what Dover and its beautiful surrounds has to offer. Thanks so much.
Delicious muesli with fruit and freshly cooked egg, bacon breakfast provided. Gary, the owner and host thankfully booked us into the Dover RSL for tea at night as nothing else was open. He was very friendly and thoughtful, with great attention to detail and desire for traveller satisfaction.
Lovely comfortable room in a large residence, with sheep, chickens, vegetable garden, fire pit at night, and walk to a bird hide at the bottom of the paddock.
Great location in Dover right on the waterfront as per the name. Alex met us on arrival to hand over keys he was very friendly .We were only there of one night to break up the driving.
We went for a lovely walk along the waterfront to the beach- stunning scenery
We also walked to the RSL club (15 min walk) for a wonderful meal
Dover is such a beautiful Tasmanian town. Right on the water, it has stunning views, fresh air and wildlife. Gary was so welcoming, our room was clean and comfortable and breakfast was delicious! Gary also packed us some tasty lunch for our day trip! We 100% recommend Ashdowns of Dover as a lovely place to stay.
Gary was a fantastic host.
Keeps the place immaculate as the breakfast was absolutely beautiful. (Try the jams)
Gave us a detailed run down of local attractions and places to see and eat.
Had the fire outside ready to go and an amazing place to sit and watch the stars
10 stars from us.
We had a lovely stay at the Ashdowns of Dover. Great location to explore the southern edge of Tasmania, very scenic accommodation and breakfast and above all Gary was a wonderful host and went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. Highly recommend this gem in Dover
staff was super friendly and I asked if I could get a special patter made up for my husband birthday and wow what a platter
Breakfast was outstanding and George the orphan lamb was super cute
If ever in Dover again will definitely be staying here again
Awesome views across the bay from this well-equipped and spacious property.
Location was great. Perfect for exploring Cockle Creek and walking the South Cape walk.
Dover RSL was a very short walk for when we didn't feel like cooking.
Incredible views of the bay from the balcony and lounge. We were surprised to find a couple of added extras on arrival. The jacuzzi was an added bonus even on a rainy winters day. Will be back when next in Dover.
