Very comfortable and clean. Breakfast is set up to be accessed at any time even if that's super early and your keen to get back on your trail. Owners were very kind, flexible and even kindly gave me a lift back up the hill to continue my walk where I left off. Central location and rooms were still peaceful even though the road is just outside. Really enjoyed and highly recommend.

We stayed in the apartment and it had all we needed for our stay. Pub part was great with a singer on in the evening and a lively crowd. Pub food served which was tasty. Landlady was helpful and very nice.

Great location by river and lovely gardens. Reception was great and ordered us a taxi when our dog developed a sore leg and we needed to get to the train station. £20 for 2 dogs for the night was cheaper than most places with the usual charge being £30.

For those wanting to see Hadrian's wall and the nearby Roman ruins and adjoining museums (Housesteads and Vindolanda, especially - the museum there is amazing), this is the place to go to as it's so close to those places. Not a great selection of restaurants as it's a very small town, but nearby Hexham just minutes away by train or car fills the bill for that.

Haydon Bridge is about 15 minutes drive to Housesteads Fort, one of the best preserved forts on Hadrian’s Wall. The town has a good feel to it. The Fish and Chip shop opposite the Anchor Hotel makes great pizzas.

Very good base to stay for visiting Hadrian's wall but the village is quite small with not much there. However it has a pretty old bridge over the river. If you come in the evening don't expect to get a meal at any of the 3 pubs in the village as only one of them serves food and was fully booked when we tried to get in on a Thursday evening. We stayed here and had to eat fish and chips in our room from the fish and chip shop.

I particularly liked the fact that the town is located quite close to Housestead Roman fort and Hadrian's Wall. These are located less than 10 minutes away by car and about a 1-1 1/2 hours walking through quite delightful country side. There are a other bars in the town but we only stayed one night at the hotel and we found that more than satsisfactory as it had served super meals and excellent local beer. The ladies at the Tourist Information Centre near the train station were very friendly and helpful. I'd recommend visiting there for great local knowledge about places to go.

Good base for seeing the sites of Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum, together with impressive sections of Hadrian's Wall. We headed off to the Northumbrian Coast via Kielder Forest, also well worth a visit.
