Being allocated one of the ‘Elvis’ rooms was a great start. We loved the retro decor and Elvis photos in our room. The Route 66 shower curtain kept the vibe going. Having a fridge and microwave was helpful. One of the most comfortable and big beds we’ve ever slept on. The breakfast area also had lots of retro decor. Staff suggestions for dining out were also helpful.

This is a sleepy town without any real attractions where everything closes early even on weekend nights. However, I can strongly recommend the WildEdge brew pub, both for its beers and the live music (though also closing at 9 pm).
The Canyons of the Ancients and adjacent pueblo ruins North of Cortes are well worth visiting.

A very nice town of about 9000 people, a very clean town with some awesome eateries. Lounging Lizard I highly recommend as well as Beny's Diner for breakfast. Wish I had more time to explore this little gem of a town. Very easy to get around.

Cortez is a cute little town.
Cortez is a cute little town. Friendly people and a variety of restaurants and fast food facilities. Not sure I would avoid any part of Cortez. Close to the 4 Corners attraction as well as Mesa Verde.

Cortez is a convenient location.
Cortez is a convenient location. We went to Mesa Verde National Park, Monument Valley, Canyonlands and Arches National Park, and Telluride from there.
Arches National Park closes for a few hours if too crowded so it's recommended to get there early.

My hubby picked up tacos at a local Mexican restaurant in Cortez and they were quite good. Cortez is a small town, so navigating around town is very easy. Next time, I would most likely look for a cabin in the mountains for lodging.

They put on a great fireworks display!
They put on a great fireworks display! It was awesome to see the locals very appreciative of the display, also.
This town is less than 20 minutes from Mesa Verde National Park.
Not sure if it was the area or the fact that it was the 4th of July but there was more drug & police activity than we are used to(we are from Northern Colorado).
If you need ice for your cooler, don't waste your time going anywhere but to the Safeway and they have very nice cashiers to boot!
Days Inn is in a great location for passing through Cortez. Checking in was simple. The room was comfortable and warm. There are electrical points on the bedside lamps for charging phones. The WiFi worked well, but is not secured. My room had a microwave which I used to cook a ready meal. A light breakfast was included, and that was lovely.
Breakfast was very good, with lots of options. The room felt clean and so did the bathroom. We wanted a place to land after a long day at Mesa Verde. Cortez was close enough even for Denver-bound people like us. Don't think they can always provide this, but both the sunset and the sunrise were spectacular.
Was right on main drag of Cortez that leads to Mesa Verde. SHort drive to park entrance but then quite a drive from park entrance to cliff dwelling sites (30 minutes+). Hotel close to several good restaurant options in town of Cortez. Place was clean, bed comfortable and we pretty much slept and left.
The hostess was really friendly, easy check in, flexible. I knew what to expect by reading reviews and looking up the pictures. Room looked as described and for a place to sleep / rest it was perfect. Near to many restauraunts if needed and felt safe enough. Coffee maker in the room and mini fridge.
NO LONGER A MOTEL!!! I booked this motel months in advance. When we arrived, there was a sign on the "office" door that said, "This is no longer a hotel. These are private homes. Please contact your booking agent." We had to sleep in the car for the night cause the ENTIRE area was all booked up...
Excellent value! Clean room, friendly staff, a games room, free breakfast and a nice area to eat it in… even the parking spots were retro, ie very large (only one spot in front of each motel unit). Loved this place - it would be my first choice if I were to return to Cortez again.
This was a clean and comfortable place to stay and a very good value motel. The desk clerk was very friendly and the owner was super nice, even offering me a free breakfast at her other hotel just up the road. I would definitely stay there again.
Courtesy of staff. Cleanliness of facility. It is a great place to stay location wise to visit the area. In all the years going out for spring break, this is one of the best hotels we've landed. Very happy.
If every hotel had a manager like Latrisha it would be 5 star.
She was wonderful is solving a very complicated problem.
Very good location for food and to visit the surrounding sites.
This hotel/motel was AWESOME!
SUPER clean and the rooms were larger than a typical modern hotel. Highly recommend The Retro Inn to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable place to stay.
