Yiouli and Dimitris are amazing hosts. We felt welcome and safe from the first minute, just like visiting old friends. Dimitris's intro to the island and tips for food/visits was so helpful! I loved the private terrace of room #3 and spent most of my time there reading and relaxing. The room was clean and tasteful. The location was also super convenient: 15 minutes walk downhill to Ermoupolis and 10 minutes uphill to Ano Syros. Taxis are quite cheap in the area, while if you choose to have a car, there is more than enough parking space.

Easy check-in. Apartment has everything you need. Bed was comfortable. Shower was big enough and good water pressure. Restaurants and ocean minutes away. Not far from port.

Villa Maria What do you look for in a guest house? A warm, helpful, and knowledgable host? Or a comfortable place to spend one’s time after a full day exploring the city, village, or island? What about proximity to restaurants, helpful recommendations, and the right amount of attentiveness? If you’re visiting the island of Syros and you prioritize any or all of the above, then look no further than Villa Maria, a stunningly beautiful home reimagined into the perfect guest house. Even in the beginning of August, the heart of tourist season, Elisa and Costas made us feel as if we were the only visitors staying in their exceptionally lovely house, when, in fact, they were operating at full occupancy. It must be said that our room, as well as the entirety of Villa Maria, was elegantly-decorated, impeccably cared for, tasteful, and, quite simply, beautiful. When Costas met us at Miaouli Square and proceeded to retrieve my wife’s carry-on suitcase as well as another roller bag from another couple also booked into the guest house, carry them up the MANY stairs (perhaps the only caveat to consider depending on one’s fitness level) to the house, while he negotiated simultaneous conversations in Greek and English to accommodate both couples, we knew we were in for a pleasant stay. Later, his recommendations for beaches, restaurants, tavernas, and delicious gelato, and more—all clearly plotted into a map for our use—were fine-tuned after a bit of conversation to suit us. And even though we usually like to discover destinations on our own when we travel, we soon found ALL of his recommendations hit the mark! Elisa, too, encouraged us to imagine that we were living in our own private island home away from home. A mix up in scheduling for her Greek cooking class—a guest’s mistake, not hers—meant that our late-notice sign-up for the afternoon would have to be cancelled.

Elizabeth was super super friendly and, although I changed the time of my check-in, she could manage to welcome me in the studio at 11pm. The studio is very nice and perfect for 2 or 3 days for single or couple travelers.
