From the outside this motel looks pretty run down and bleak. But, the room was surprisingly nice. Comfortable bed, good bath and shower, private enclosed parking area if you are lucky to get a spot.
Located alongside the Katherine River and Nitmiluk Gorge, Cicada Lodge features an outdoor swimming pool, a restaurant and a bar.

We had an amazing time at Gorge View Bush Retreat. On arrival we were warmly greeted by the delightful Kate who immediately whizzed us up to the sunset deck so we didn't miss out of the amazing view. She gave us a great recommendation for Kumbidgee Restaurant where we had one of the best meals of our entire trip. We stayed in the beautiful glamping tent which was well appointed and we sat and watched the stars at night in front of our fire.
Kate and Carney gave us great tips on the thermal springs and other activities. On the 2nd night we enjoyed the most amazing pizza on the sunset deck - first to arrive, last to leave!
We did the one day canoe trip down the gorge which was an absolute highlight.
Kate and Carney display a genuine love and passion for hosting at Gorge View Bush Retreat. They are fabulous hosts and you can see genuine care and enthusiasm for what they are doing and the improvements they are making. A very memorable stay.

We did a cruise of Katherine (Nitmiluk) Gorge which involved two gorges with a short walk in between. This was very enjoyable, comfortable with an interesting and informative narration. Scenery is spectacular and not to be missed.

Katherine was a vibrant town but we were only passing through on our way to Darwin .The Glamping tent accomodation which was pet friendly at the Gorge View Bush Retreat and Sunset view of the Gorge appealed to us as a stopover.

We chose the wrong time to visit Katherine during monsoon season. Most tourist sites are closed and very limited to what you can do. It’s a waste of time for us. In addition the accommodation we booked didn’t meet our expectations, so we decided to drive back to Darwin.

Not much appeal for Katherine Town itself however there is plenty of Indigenous arts and cultural experiences around to witness. Main purpose of the stay was for Nitmiluk which was sensational with a wealth of knowledge from the guides on the Indigenous culture and way of life.

We only spent a day at Katherine, as we were on the way to Kakadu. We visit the Katherine hot springs which was lovely for a morning dip as there weren't many people there yet. Would recommend canoeing in Katherine Gorge, stunning views and you might see some crocodiles. Edith falls is also another good place to visit for a hike and swim.

Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge is amazing.
Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge is amazing. Try to book the sunset cruise, you won't be disappointed. Absolutely beautiful and the guides are great, providing knowledge of the gorge from the Jawoyn traditional owners perspective.
Another highly recommended place to visit is Top Didj - and book the cultural show with Manual. A very fun, interactive and informative session, where he will show you how to make fire, throw a spear and paint traditionally. This is a must do when you're in town.
The best waterhole in and around Katherine is the Hot Water Springs - not overly crowded like Mataranka, and the upper and lower pools are absolutely beautiful. Take a noodle and float on downstream. Best way to cool off in Katherine - the water is not hot, nor is it cold - is the perfect temperature.
If you have time, spend a day at Mataranka and visit Bitter Springs and the Thermal Pools. Both were nice, although very popular and busy.
We have been staying in Katherine quite often last year and it was always hard if not impossible to find an affordable place that is nice.
The rooms a renovated and a good size. The bed was super comfy.
Staff was beyond friendly and helpful. Definitely gonna be our go to hotel in Katherine now if the prices don’t go thru the roof like all the other places. Brekky was good. Didn’t go for a swim but pool looked nice.
three coworkers travelling together, a room each. we all agreed Katherine Motel is the cleanest Motel we have ever stayed in, including the grounds.
awesome central location.
the restaurant that is within the grounds is delcious and well priced.
staff were friendly, accomodating and very helpful.
we have booked our next two work trips to stay at Katherine Motel as well, very happy
The staff were so friendly, smiley, helpful and professional.
The room was very clean, modern, comfortable, king bed.

A great weekend NT staycay at the gorge.
The owners Nicole snd Sam.
The receptionists Elizabeth and Mac- were extremely helpful.
Nicole upgraded me to a better room due to a minor hiccup in the initial one and also have me s free night seeing I was stuck in Katherine due to flooded roads.
I wish them all the best on their new venture
Wonderful service by reception in finding us an upgrade unit for the 2 nights we were in Katherine. We certainly appreciated the effort you went to. Certainly a safe place to stay, and the unit was lovely and clean, very comfy bed, and nicely furnished. No hesitation to stay again!
Family room is great if you have a bunch of friends needing to stay for a reasonable price.
nice pool and bbq area.
easy to access room key after hours.
great location and a quick walk into Katherine from this hotel.
Good breakfast!
It has a LavAzza coffee maker. Location is good, staff are friendly. Although there’s shortage of egg supplies in Katherine , staff told us they tried their best, to make sure we can have it for breakfast daily.
Out of town, but on the road to Katherine Gorge, which is the main attraction. Apartments were up on poles, so the vehicle could be parked underneath out of the sun. Extremely friendly and helpful desk staff.
Gorgeous location, lovely staff, clean simple comfy cabin that stayed cool overnight and had everything I needed. Lovely shady park too. Nice spot just a little out of town and so close to the Springs.
The property was exactly as described. After a few nights in a hotel in Kakadu it was lovely to stay somewhere more homely! The hosts are excellent and the lovely dogs added to the experience
There aren’t many options in Katherine- this hotel was very clean, comfortable, and relatively updated. Good value for the price. Didn’t try the restaurant but had good reviews. I
