Mews Cottage felt like a country welcoming. The facilities were really clean, you had enough towels, sheets, pillows, blankets, they had fresh bread ready for morning breakfast. The fridge had eggs, bacon, milk, yoghurt, orange juice. The owner reached out to me by text to explain where the key was, gave me his mobile. Beds were really comfortable.

Hosts were really friendly and helpful with information about the house and local area, and then left us to enjoy the property. It's a beautiful part of the world and you instantly feel relaxed the moment you step onto the property. Lots of things to keep you entertained, board games, books, chess, darts, pool table, fire pits.

The resort was clean and tidy, although could use with some updating, it felt a little tired. The spa in the room was by far the highlight, the view looking out the window was peaceful. We were excited to go to the pool and spa area as it looked so good on the website, but we were disappointed when we got there that the spa had been drained and was not in use. We already knew that the day spa area itself was closed for renovations so this just added to the disappointment, and I'm not sure if this was all factored into the cost or not as the room rate was ok but could have been less considering lots of facilities were not in use. Also it seemed odd that the pool area closes at 5pm when the staff go home, bit of a rush to have a swim as check in is 3pm.
The meal at the restaurant was delicious but very expensive, I got the steak which was an extra $10 and then sides another additional cost, I felt the steak was overpriced once you added sides. The entrée lettuce gems were divine, and we thought the rolls with entrée would have been a nice local sour dough or similar, but they were just the regular oval shaped rolls that we get at the local supermarket at home. The wait staff at the restaurant were fantastic and very welcoming and friendly.
I would suggest getting an upper floor room as you can hear the spa above when you are in a ground floor room, it wasn't a huge deal but just a tip for those who are unsure whether to pay the extra cost, I think it would be worth it and I hope we return sometime in the future and we will do the same.
The area is gorgeous, so many great little stops along the way from Ballarat, and Woodend is a cute little town. As the restaurant at the resort wasn't serving breakfast, we went into town to Paysanne cafe and give it 5 stars.

Our greeting at check in wasnt very pleasant
Our greeting at check in wasnt very pleasant
The lady who initially greeted us is a nice lady and tried her best to sort out what at 1st looked to be a non existing booking.
The rude manager decided to but in and so called "help"the lady who was doing fine without his help.
He talked down to us and questioned us about why we booked through booking.com and how crap booking.com is.
We had been charged for a breakfast thats only served on weekends so we asked for a refund and were told to do it through booking.com in which eventually we received notice we will get a refund.
Does not make sense why this hotel is on booking.com stating and selling a breakfast that's not available through the week
The manager also stated we should pay any loss in that mistake about breakfast and was very smart alec in his mannerism.
The manager was whingy and rude and not welcoming at all so good luck keeping ya job mate.
Will never go there again

Lovely setting, and the autumn leaves were just magnificent.
Lovely setting, and the autumn leaves were just magnificent. Macedon is close to other towns such as Trentham and Daylesford so we spent a day exploring those towns. Mt Macedon gardens- they will take your breath away!
Chris was a friendly but not intrusive host and provided a delicious and generous breakfast . Our room was well appointed and had spots to relax and unwind overlooking the beautiful garden . A very comfortable bed and quiet location meant we slept soundly and woke refreshed . Yet it was close , walking distance, to the main street cafes and restaurant and allowed us to do walks from the house . A short drive to Mt Macedon for some more lovely bushwalks and cafes.
This property is exceptional. The hosts are extremely considerate, hospitable and helpful. The breakfast supplies were all and more than you need. These supplies were farm fresh and delicious. The cottage is up to date and extremely clean. The bed, very comfortable and cosy. The kitchen, set up with all you need. This property offers a really relaxing retreat yet it is close enough to all the beautiful options on offer in the Macedon Ranges for your day outings.
The host was so accommodating in allowing us to check in early and so understanding when I broke a glass bottle 5 minutes into my stay! The bed was really comfortable and there were plenty of towels and other little things we needed. We enjoyed the self-service breakfast room and sunny garden area with picnic tables. A really nice, simple and comfortable country motel. We will stay here again if we come back to Macedon.
Excellent. Delightful garden location. Outstanding breakfast. Friendly, but not overbearing, host (just the way I prefer). Spotless throughout. Easy walk/drive to town & Mt Macedon (via graceful old homes & gardens). Good cycling, bushwalks or drive through unspoiled bushland to towns such as Woodend (relax, drive slowly, take in the beauty & fresh air !! )
The location was perfect for us as we were attending a wedding at Hanging Rock and it was really easy to get to the highway, to Woodend, Macedon and to the Rock. The three bedroom Cottage had good facilities for a family, with lots of space, dining table, basic kitchenette, and really comfortable beds.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was ready and cool when we arrived on a very hot day.
Overall the rooms were comfortable and bed was very comfortable but the hotel it’s self is tired and in the need of some repairs. It was a little different from the pictures on the internet.
Clean comfortable room for our weekend away in Macedon Ranges. Friendly staff who even arranged for us to stay in the room closest to the park area for our dog which was very much appreciated!
Very good bed and room with big spa and great view. Bathroom was big and clean, but water did not drain in the shower very well, so would come out and get the bath mat all wet.
FIRST TIME WE STAYED HERE AND WE WE THOURHLY IMPRESSED WITH THE ROOM VERY SPACIOUSE, CLEAN AND THE SERVICE FROM RECEPTION STAFF WAS FANTASTIC. THANK YOU
