We loved the antique, yet comfy bed, the large bath tub, the wood fire & the delicious breakfast that the lovely owner made for us. She also provided informative information on the platypus who live in the local creek. Unfortunately we couldn’t wait for Mr Platypus, so I bought a post card of a platypus photo! Well done to the owner of Bears Went over the Mountain! We were in room 2 on 26.11.22.

Jo's Farmhouse is so homely it feels like you are Goldlocks when you arrive, almost as if you are in someone's house and shouldn't be, the provisioning is beyond generous, the comfort is fantastic and Jo is contactable 24/7

Port Huon as the gateway to Bruny Island was good.
Port Huon as the gateway to Bruny Island was good. What is bad is the booking.com, which is an American multi-national ripping off locals. They should stop stealing from tourists by getting them to do reviews for free.

Quaint township, perfectly situated to explore the whole Huon Valley and further south.
We had great meals at the Kermandie Hotel, which had a variety of vegetarian meals.
Favourite spots were Cygnet, there is a great book shop and alternative shop, Huonville, busy but has a variety of op shops and cafes, and further down south at Dover and Southport, where there are great fishing spots and camping areas.

The Kermandie is a nice place to stay in this area for a family of three. Would only recommend that the main bed be updated as it was not a restful sleep due to the springs in the mattress. Also our room must of been above the kitchen in which they had quite loud music playing in the afternoon and during service but then thank fully stopped of a night time.

Good location in that it was close to a larger centre (Huonville) whilst only 5 minutes or so from Geeveston (with a very good butcher and sushi [available at the weekends]) and Franklin with its restaurants, especially Osteria.
The problem is the lack of footpath type space so walking on a main road could be hazardous.

Loved our visit to the Wooden Boat Centre, in Franklin, just down the road along with Frank's Cider Bar and Cafe. Willie Smith's Apple Shed and Cafe on the way to Port Huon. Frank's Cider Bar and Cafe, is another great little spot and a not to be missed destination. There are great walks in Hartz National Park, and we got to do several after overnight snow falls. Amazing! And, don't forget to pop into the Geeveston Forestry and Heritage Centre/Tourist Information Centre? Grab a map and locate the town's Platypus Walk. We were lucky enough to see one of these extraordinary creatures, a special experience for anyone!
Excellent location for visiting Hartz Mountain National Park. This is a beautiful old hotel well furnished and decorated. We enjoyed dinner both nights in the bar restaurant and the free continental breakfast is amazing, superior to what one might expect. I was happy they had not only gluten free bread available but also several gf cereals. The breakfast room looks out on a beautiful view of the water.
our visit to Port Huon was primarily for close proximity to Hastings Caves and Thermal pool and Adventure Sky Walk and Swing Bridge at Geeveston. Both attractions are well worth the visit and highly recommended.
Our bonus visit was to Southport at the bottom of Tasmania looking out to the Great Southern ocean, about 10 minutes from Hastings caves
Nice view from main window. Very clean. Great water pressure, especially the shower, and easy parking right outside. Gave heaps of milk for hot beverages, which is a deficit in many hotels/motels. Breakfast in the main building, good time frame and variety. Nice evening dinners, lots of vegetarian dishes to choose from. Thank you!
The Kermandie was a cosy and charming place to stay. The rooms and common areas were tastefully appointed and all amenities were as advertised. Dinner at the bar downstairs was delicious and staff were helpful and friendly. Overall The Kermandie offered excellent value for money and was a great launchpad for exploring the Huon Valley.
The entire hotel was charming and comfortable, felt immediately at home. We had a group of 5 of us, so we got multiple rooms. We had dinner at the restaurant as well, very happy with the food (veggie portions could have been larger). Staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast bar was elite.
Port Huon was an ideal location to explore the south eastern area of Tasmania. The managers were friendly and the cottages were clean and had extra items in the kitchen - glad wrap, pepper, salt.
While travelling from interstate it is very handy to have items like these supplied.
Dinner was available and very tasty. Tarrif included breakfast, nice continental breakfast. Rooms are separate from the hotel, quiet and can park your car at the door to your room. Delightful area on the bank of the Huon inlet, we enjoyed a local walk.
Great location. Close to Kermandie Hotel and restaurant. Short drive to Geveston and all amenities there. Short drive to Hart Mountain walks. Lovely cabins with a great view. Tom and Ling are great hosts. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
There was a good assortment of utensils etc to cook with, and I was very happy with the efficient room service each day. The accommodation was, clean, roomy, and meals at the hotel were good - always a cosy and friendly atmosphere.
The cabin was set out well with all we needed. View looking onto the bay was great. Close to Kermandie Hotel where we went for a lovely meal & Geeveston only a 5 minute drive for anything last minute that we had forgotten to pack.
fantastic location in Port Huon. Beautiful cabin and so clean, everything you would want
host very friendly and happy lady. nice spot to sit on the verandah and watch the world go by, amazing vista
couldn’t fault it
Views from the hotel are great. Nice bar. Food was good!
Despite the dated bathroom and kitchen, it was very clean and everything worked as it should. (We were in a unit, not in the main hotel building).
Neat and tidy room which was a good size. The hotel was lovely and the continental breakfast was a good selection. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was a great location with a lovely view.
Being an older elegant hotel they matched the room decor to the era and was very well done Restaurant was closed the night we were there but the front bar meal was excellent
Really enjoyed the chai black rice pudding. Because it was Easter stayed close to home for meals including breakfast. Very handy location to experience the Huon Valley
Room was spacious, clean and wonderful views. We had a 2 bedroom and the Hotel is going through some renovations at the moment but that did not affect our stay.
