The town of Verviers has a proud industrial history of the wool trade.
The early prosperity of this industry is reflected in the architecture of the offices and houses in the older parts of the town with interesting hill terraces of late 19c cut stone buildings.
Verviers is serviced by an excellent motorway and rail system and is within an easy twenty minute drive from the famous Spa Francochamps racetrack.
There are many museums close to the town to spend the time if the weather excludes one from sightseeing in the hills and forests nearby.

Sort of unattractive town about an 1.5 hour drive outside of Brussels. The surrounding areas are very nice country side , but the town itself is not great. A bit depressing. Apparently it is quite close to the city of Spa (where a formula one car race takes place ) so this might be a reason to stay here.
It's a really lovely hotel in like 20 walking seconds distance of the railway station! what you get is a stay in an old, lovey house with its own character. there's a need to walk some narrow steep stairs but still the shower and bathrooms are very modern - so really the best of all worlds.
Plus the breakfast was great, self-cooked and tasted well. Additional it has to be said that the madam at the reception was very friendly about arriving late due to train delays - just underlines the positive, human character of this hotel
We had the 'marine' room with en suite bathroom. We had a good space, comfortable beds, kettle and fridge. The location of the B&B was rural and quiet so we slept very well. Often we stay in very modern, impersonal hotels so it was a pleasure to be in a real B&B where we were treated as actual guests, rather than names on a list. We enjoyed a generous and delicious breakfast every morning and the hosts were welcoming. Overall, it was a wonderful place to stay and we enjoyed it very much.
The hosts were very nice and easy to reach.
They are very polite and friendly people.
The studio is charming, it has a nice balcony and the view has some nice trees which host some happy singing birds.
The neighbourhood is also beautiful and we think it is the best choice for Verviers.
There is a bakery nearby open early in the morning, some restaurants here and there and a big supermarket.
We had a good time in this studio and we plan to come back.
The staff was nice, friendly and helpful, the parking was free and more than enough, the bar and restaurant were great, as always at van der valk, the location was nice aswel, next to a shopping centre, the train station is about a 15 to 20 minute walk away, or you can take a bus which stopts near the hotel. The beds were fantastic, they were comfy and definitely one of the best ive had.
The suite is perfect all the comfort you want and need for a relaxing weekend .
Its perfectly located on the top of the hill and you have a magnificent vieuw over the city verviers . You have all the privacy you want .
Styling perfect the sauna and hot tube on the terras makes the suite compleet .
The owners are very friendly.
We had a great weekend we will be back again .
Reception was very friendly and helpfull. Because I needed to leave early next day, the owner was making the breakfast earlier available. Also the owner was very friendly. Nice comfy room with all facilities available. Also free parking next to the Hotel. When you need to be in the Neighborhood, I can recommend this hotel.
lovely host, comfy room and good breakfast. We made a mistake not knowing it was Frances fathers day that weekend, so despite having reserved diner for the night we missed the hotels update saying this was no longer available, there was a restaurant 20mins walk away which was fine for what we needed.
Hotel Verviers Van Der Valk met all our expectations. We were a group of four people - all senior citizens in our 70's so we wanted convenient on-site parking, and on site restaurant for dinner and breakfast, comfortable rooms and wi-fi connections. The breakfast was excellent. Thank you.
Jacuzzi, Sauna, bath tub, lounge area, kitchenette, bed, breakfast, location and all amenities were top class. Was home within a home and very well furnished which we were quite surprised and the hosts were fantastic. Everything was in place on time. Better than a 5* hotel feeling.
The atmosphere of the bar was very unique full of history.
Parking next to the hotel, which is locked in the night.
Small gifts - belgian chocolate and pen in the room for every guest.
Delicious breakfast full of regional products for 11 euro per person.
Lovely old hotel with a beautiful cafe/bar downstairs. The owner is extremely friendly and took great care of me after a few days hiking. Buffet breakfast for only EUR11. Fantastic value. Great location.
I stayed in the hotel several times and enjoy to come back. Nice large public space, large and comfortable rooms, very helpful and professional staff, good breakfast.
