This hotel was a wonderful surprise. It's within walking distance to shops, restaurants, the botanical garden, the Palace Park. The hotel itself is adjacent to another historical palace which is still family owned. The Hotel am Palais is wonderfully decorated in Indonesian style. I was not expecting such a getaway.

Reception with the owner/manager was very friendly and easy check-in . The hotel is a classic half-timber building but the rooms are very modern and obviously recently upgraded . We stayed in the Buddha room which was a bit small but it was very comfortable. There was a en-suite compact bathroom but the bathroom fixtures were very modern and the room was very clean . No A/C but there is a fan in the room if needed . Good inside bike storage . There is an honor bar with many drink options in the hallway by the rooms. On-site restaurant was quite good with a reasonable price point .
Very good breakfast served by the very pleasant and informative owner/manager . Would definitely stay here again .
