I am a mountain biker and it was extremely convenient to have safe, comfortable lodging close to Germany's northernmost mountain bike resort: Hahnenklee. The hillside location is amazing, with views to the nearby peaks, the bike park, and small town of Hahnenklee below. The 100+ year old building itself retains a somewhat awkward and improvised, internal layout. The lobby features a 60s, retro vibe: a funky throwback to the resort getaway this area must have been (or still is?). I couldn't tell but I liked it in contrast to the cold, ultra-modern chains I usually stay in. The hotel staff, consisting of one person besides the kitchen cook, was very friendly and spoke English and German. I didn't opt for the hotel breakfast, a €12 option on Booking.com. At check in however I learned that the hotel charges only €8, which I also declined but later regretted since it smelled absolutely delicious and looked awesome. This is an independent, family-run hotel and I strongly support this type of franchise, however my negative experiences outweighed the positives so I am unsure I will return. See below

The staff were nice and the room comfortable despite some flaws. The inside pool was great for the kids. Would consider returning if the price was lower.

Little hotel, not the fancy place, but so full of small little details that make you smile, from the amazing staff and attention to how breakfast and dinner are served. Comfy clean rooms, amazing lake views and delicious food. - The breakfast: small variety but tasting great, served in a great way and with a lot of attention from the staff - The young team of staff during afternoon-evening shift: Super nice, attentive and friendly. you are amazing, thanks a lot! - The restaurant chef during dinner is a master and the food was great. - The Fireplace-common room is a gem! With all sorts of drinks and amazing atmosphere it was a haven! We were there during spring but I believe in cold winters with a lot of snow it should be magical as well.
