If you like drinking wine; the history of wine; the making of wine and the purchasing of wine: Winningen is great. If you prefer beer: Go to Cologne ;) But seriously; take a tour of a vineyard, and a wine tasting session at Weingut-Weyh - incredibly interesting. We also didn’t have a bad meal in the 4 days we were there - all the food was a very high standard.

don't expect to much from this small town, but it is nice...
don't expect to much from this small town, but it is nice quiet place to overnight with a couple of cafe bars selling locally produced wine and a really quaint 'tapas' style restaurant serving good food.

Plenty of choice, friendly service. It would be perfect in the summer time, right on the River Mosel. The restaurant looked good, but had finished serving by the time we arrived, which was fine because we were tired and were looking forward to a good night's sleep, which we got!
