The cathedral is not to be missed.
The cathedral is not to be missed. Even if you're not big on churches or old buildings you will be impressed by the truly amazing cleaning and restoration work that has been done over the last two years or so and is still going on. The immediate surroundings include many attractive old buildings and several cafés and restaurants.

Central Chartres is a mix of old and new with many historical buildings and of course the amazing cathedral. Lots of lovely local restaurants ranging from brasseries to Greek/Turkish family cooking and people are very friendly. Loved walking along the river to get different perspectives of the cathedral

Whilst the amazing Cathedral of Chartres must be its main draw, the city centre itself is well worth a visit, being a mass of mediaeval lanes and alleys fully of lovely old buildings as well as lots of shops and eateries. The river Eure also flows through the city and a walk along it is recommended.
One further piece of entertainment not to miss are the various light shows projected every night onto various walls, bridges and churches as well as the cathedral. Extraordinary does not do the show justice.
Overall a great place to visit for a weekend - 2 days (and nights) would probably be enough.

Lovely little town, very contained and walkable.
Lovely little town, very contained and walkable. There are many restaurants everywhere as it is a definite tourist town. 2 days is more than long enough to visit and see everything, it would also be fine for a day trip from Paris.

A terrific gem of a city.
A terrific gem of a city. Very walkable with many great cafes and bistros. Not the typical American tourist spot, but we felt welcomed. The Cathedral is so amazing and worthy of several hours to appreciate it. Tours are available and worth it. If your visit is in summer, the city night light show is very unique and artistic. Take the tiny train to see it all. Great home base location to visit nearby chateaus too. The local TI wasn't as helpful (although their building is very cool) as the Chartres visitors center across the street from the front of the Cathedral.
Clean, basic accessible (kind of!) room with wet room. Comfort height loo. Really good powerful shower and a stool provided. Enormous comfy bed..although a little difficult to get out of from the wall side. Light controls above the bed were handy.
Free parking. Plenty of shops/restaurants around and the cheapest petrol we've found yet in France was across the road.
Chartres is lovely..go see the cathedral at night to catch the son et lumiere show. It's fabulous.
Clean room, beds, bathroom. Good location for breaking up the journey between South France and Calais and vice versa Easy, reliable late check-in machine. Great coffee machine at breakfast! Friendly staff. Good value compared with competitors in the same price range. Comfy beds and working Aircon this time in this room (last week there was an issue).
Super friendly staff at check in. Nice to have the small kitchen to cook in. My only two requests would be to have the instructions for the appliances also in English and to provide more than one bit of soap for washing dishes. Otherwise the stay was great and we were super happy to be in nice walking distance for Chartres en lumbiere.
Delicious location . Modern clean restoran 1 floor. Excellent breakfast and stuffs. I liked this hotel as the main place in Chartres when you visit exhibition Chartres Expo. I visited Chartres during 10 years and never change this hotel because it became my second home.I recommendate for tourism this location always.
The staff, especially Thomas, was great. The hotel is clean and updated. Breakfast was perfect. Close to city and parking for both hotel and visit to Cathedral were easy. Enjoyed dinner at Cafe Bleu. Good stop right off motor way.
Everything at Ibis Styles in Chartres was perfect. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. The room at the top of the hotel was very quite. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast were very good.
Front desk clerk lady & man on staff were excellent. They both did 110% to make us happy. Front desk lady advised & called trolley company to confirm no tickets available which was our reason for being in Chartres..
we have stayed in several places (in Fr and elsewhere in EU) and this was by far the best experience in France ! the place was amazing, the amenities, the comfort, the facilities… all was great!
We could see the Cathedral right out of our window and be inside withing 2 minutes. The person running the hotel was excellent, helpful, conversational and had a great personality.
Basic room but clean and quiet. Basic but good breakfast. Very good location, just behind the cathedral. Very kind and helpful staff. Free Parking at the hotel.
Surprisingly quiet, despite pretty much having been booked out. I have never been in a Kyriad Hotel before, now I am hoping all are as good as this one.
