Quiet area. Easy to park. Location is good if you don't want to go too far away from the highway. The area felt safe.

Laroque des Alberes is very quiet (although I was there in mid-March) and seems to be mostly residential. There are very few shops although a large supermarket is just a five-minute drive away. If you want a few days of tranquility, it would be a good place to choose.

This is a lovely village nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees, a short drive from the beaches of Argeles and Collioure. There is now a good choice of places to eat and drink to suit all budgets. We have always loved the Cafe des Artistes which is at the heart of the village and we paid our first visit to the Refuge du Clocher - beautiful food and friendly staff in an excellent location. There is a small selection of shops covering most needs including a very friendly charcuterie/ fruit and veg shop, a bakers, a pharmacist and a newsagents. A weekly market is held every Wednesday morning with an interesting range of stalls.
You will find plenty of options for walking, whether it's a casual stroll around the old walls or a hike up into the mountains. The tourist information office is really helpful. They helped us to find out more about the local buses which are excellent value.
