This Bed and Breakfast was so beautiful and unique. It's on top of a hill where there used to be a medieval fortress. The view from the terrace is mesmorizing. We enjoyed our dinner out there on our last night. We could take a path down to the town so that we could walk to a restaurant on two nights. The owner, Vincent, was an outstanding host. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and were enjoying our stay. He provided much guidance on the best things to do in the area. Breakfast each morning was wonderful. This is a true bed and breakfast experience with an owner who really cares about his guests.

I am not sure I can express just how much we enjoyed our stay at Arara - it exceeded all expectations and was a gem of a place to call home for 2 nights during our visit to the Argonne Forest area. The outside seating areas are comfortable, welcoming and relaxing after a long day touring on our bikes. The hosts add the true flavor to this facility - they are well traveled and the decore reflects there interest in history. The main dining table welcomes great conversation and is topped off with delicious meals provided by the hosts. They also provide a variety of drinks you can add to your enjoyment - beers, wines, soft drinks etc. The room was another spectacular bonus to our stay at Arara - modern, clean, spacious, views. Arara is an unexpected luxury in this region of France. Go for the location, rooms, value but most of all for the hosts. We miss them already.

The petite déjeuner was a cut above the rest, in this class. 'loved the proprietors / operators!
The location is superb, although in the summertime when the windows must be opened the amount of agricultural and industrial truck traffic through Varennes might be annoying.
In many ways this hotel is a gem along the lines of a traditional French estaminet in that the owners live in it and the centrally located kitchen is adds much charm to the property and its operation.
