Overall, the region was beautiful and there are many lovely towns to visit and much history in the area. Sarlat has a recently updated town square that is quite beautiful. Getting around the town itself is typical of a small French town. Walking is best! I was underwhelmed with the restaurants and the shops. Some areas of the town feel rundown.AAnonymous - 10Scored 10

It’s such a beautiful city and it has wonderful things to explore within the walls. The whole region around Sarlat is beautiful. Sarlat is the perfect place to rest after a long day exploring other small towns or caves in this gorgeous region. We could have spent two weeks here easily. Take full advantage of the markets on Wednesday and Saturday in Sarlat to get amazing food, and of course, eat at a restaurant and enjoy some amazing wine.NicoleUnited States - 8.0Scored 8.0

Many places to dine, seemingly pretty much the same menus everywhere except in a couple of higher end restaurants. It is hilly. Politeness and a smile opens many doors, I don't speak French well, but was very pleased at how friendly and polite the people were. I mean all the people not just the ones that are getting some financial benefit from you. Basically, be nice, don't be an ass, and you won't get treated like one. Take a moment to look at how many men these small towns lost during WWI, must have been devistating.

The best thing of Sarlat is the location: It's easy and fast to make day trips to the multiple interesting location in the area. Food offering is quite unified between the restaurants, it gets a bit boring after a while. Having said that there are few really good restaurants but it takes effort to find them.j-manGermany

It is conveniently located on the main town square. Restaurants and shops are available in areas immediately surrounding the apartment. Christine was an excellent hostess and always available to accommodate us. We really enjoyed our stay in Sarlat and would return again to stay in this accommodation. The apartment provided an excellent “home base” for us to explore the nearby Dordogne area.

Alex, one of the owners drove us into Sarlat, walked us to our restaurant, then drove us back. The hotel is in a beautiful location, everything is sparkling clean and beautiful. The location is awesome, you are minutes away from Sarlat in a quiet, neighborhood, with multiple small cites within short distance. The location of the hotel is on a high hill making it difficult to reach. It’s a long walk from the train station. The manager could help new residents by sending them the phone number of the local taxi company prior to arrival. The temperature was in the low 40s while I was here. The rooms were cold.
