The cottage was pristine, charming and cosy - it had everything we needed. The location was perfect for us - the gorgeous countryside of Pendle to gaze at and explore and a great pub just around the corner

I've stayed here several times, and the staffing is greatly improved.
Everyone is courteous, efficient and helpful. I wasn't well on my first evening, and one of the staff led me back to my room.
The rooms are comfortable and generally quite quiet, as is the location (though there can be noise if there is a function on).

We needed to check-in as early as possible so we could attend a wedding. I'd emailed beforehand and the staff had gone out of their way to turn around our room so we could have access when we arrived. It was a large, well appointed room with an ensuite incorporating both a jacuzzi bath and an excellent powerful shower. It was clean and tidy, if a little care-worn, but the bed was exceptionally comfortable, with high thread count bedding and fluffy towels and they get my vote because a teapot was provided. ☺️
Great nights sleep in a comfortable bed with the window open...
Great nights sleep in a comfortable bed with the window open felt safe as a female solo traveler. I loved the rural quiet village location and layout of the room bedroom upstairs with a nice view over the garden from the window and a skylight that could be opened at night and a new smart TV with Free Netfix the shower was very hot with good pressure. Great Value

People are very friendly, plenty of places to eat and drink, from cafes, pubs, restaurants to Michelin star eateries if you fancy. Great for walking, lots of easy access routes. Barrowford sites right on the canal network and also has the River Pendle running through it. A hub to many other interesting places to visit.

The evening meals were very good in the pub.
The evening meals were very good in the pub. Highly recommended. If booking, state you want rooms 1-4 and avoid rooms 5 and 6.
It seems to be a good place for walking but as it rained the whole time we were unable to take advantage. Roads are narrow so no parking available. All routes should be planned to start from the pub car park, providing you are staying there.

The inn is a lovely stone building and the pub / restaurant...
The inn is a lovely stone building and the pub / restaurant area decently maintained. The food is really very good and offers value for money, the steak and ale pie is recommended. There is a nice array of Thwaites hand pulled bitters along with what I assume to be is a guest ale. The staff are generally excellent (with exception of one staff member) being friendly and helpful. The cottages are not too well maintained though, they are crying out for a makeover. Externally the front doors and window frames have peeling paint. Internally the wallpaper, kitchen area tiles, painted areas, carpeting, and bathroom area tiles, are in need of replacement as they look scruffy and worn out. The drain away of bathroom sink and shower is incredibly slow, and the toilet seat of one cottage is loose. However, the accommodation is set in the lovely village of Barley and offers a perfect springboard for exploration of the surrounding countryside. I think the message is here 'come on Thwaites get some money pumped in and bring the accommodation up to the standard expected for the prices charged'.
