Breakfast was simple bread for toast and a number of small cereal boxes. Useful for small children. We made our own breakfast and did use the bread provided. I liked the fact that the host had included small butter parcels.

Parts of Bishop Auckland are a little 'scruffy', quite a few empty shops in the town, although there are the usual supermarkets etc in the out-of-town shopping centres.
Auckland Castle and museums were very interesting. The guides in Auckland Castle were knowledgeable and very happy to show off everything there. The gardens will be stunning once they mature a little.

Bishop Auckland is undergoing great renovations.
Bishop Auckland is undergoing great renovations. Though the main street has some way to go, the Market Square and Bishops Palace area is really attractive. The Castle (Bishop's Palace), Mining Art Gallery and Spanish Gallery are full of interest, well worth the entry fee (book annual pass online for best value). The best thing was the friendliness of the people we met, both as knowledgeable guides in the attractions and welcoming locals in the pubs and restaurants.

Bishop Auckland is being regenerated.
Bishop Auckland is being regenerated. Around the market place is gorgeous. Auckland Castle is beautiful with a fabulous coffee shop. We went to the Kynren Festival. It was outstanding, like nothing we’ve seen before. Would highly recommend it.

B A is full of surprises.
B A is full of surprises. For the size of the town it has multiple sites of interest with the Bishop’s Palace/Castle steeped in history back to its origins with the Norman conquest nearly one thousand years ago, to a mining museum of local art from the recent past. The town is compact with easy parking, some nice eateries and still boasts easy access to the countryside walks within the Castle’s deer park. It also serves as an excellent base for exploring further afield. Durham, and it’s Cathedral, the Beamish museum, the Bowes museum at Barnard Castle, the nearby Raby Castle, a Roman Fort, Hadrians Wall, and the list goes on.

Big rooms, high ceilings. Immaculately clean. Lots of light. Thick carpets, great towels, good kitchen. Tea, milk and coffee provided along with breakfast cereal.
Everything we needed was there for us. It's in a quiet area off the main roads, but close to local shop and Morrison's supermarket. Market square about a ten minute walk.
We were staying there to break our journey north. It's close to the A1M, but not too close.
Location perfect for my needs. New, excellent condition.
I am on a 3 week journey, & here I was able to wash some clothes - dried overnight in this hot weather.
Enjoyed Bishop Auckland - which I barely knew: the Patron, Mr Rufford is doing marvellous things - the town looks as if it's been transported from France. Exciting developments at the Bishop's Palace.
The property is in a great central location for bishop Auckland.
we where going the Kynren show and it was about a 20 min easy walk to it.
like the small touches of shampoo etc and the breakfast (bread, milk butter ,jams and small cereals ) is a lovely idea.
private parking is good.
generally clean but a bit dusty under the tv,nothing to spoil our stay tho
Locarion was very central. Bedrooms were cosy as described but there was plenty of room. Large lounge and bathroom and the kitchen was more than adequate for our needs. Was impressed by the cleanliness. The hosts provided accurate and useful information. Would definately go back if we are in the area again.
Beautifully decorated and really comfortable setting. The staff were delightful and very helpful. Check in and out was very simple and I was made to feel welcome instantly and for my entire stay. This trip was solo for business. I will be returning with my partner in the near future.
A wonderful hotel that is really haunted.
Absolutely great staff, particularly the receptionist and also manager was really friendly. He has only been there y weeks.
A lovely room and a tasty breakfast.
A fantastic hotel, well worth a visit. It is so so old, with so much history.
Lovely room and great location for visiting Bishop Auckland which is well worth a visit. The courtyard area is pretty. It also felt good reading about the Auckland project and knowing your stay was contributing. The tomato and goats cheese tart in the restaurant was great
Country house in the middle of a picturesque village. Some nice evening walks. Easy reach of historic Raby castle And I guess it’s in an hours drive of Beamish open air museum. And Bowes museum. And ideal if you visit Bishop Auckland. My room had old timbering on ceiling.
Very nicely refurbished flat and gave us a base to visit the area. The Auckland project is excellent and Locomotion at Shildon very good. Easy to get there by train and easy to walk around. Very thoughtful owners had left snacks and lots of useful things.
The owner Sean was welcoming from the start
Nothing was too much trouble
I had the double room with en suite
Parking permit was a godsend as most big hotels charge you for parking as well !!
Will be returning next year
Excellent value for money
Staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful. The hotel is in a beautiful location and great for a peaceful stay. Breakfast was good - menu had a good selection, we wanted a more simple choice and they were happy to accomodate us.
Lovely place to stay with friendly welcoming staff.
Situated next to Escomb Saxon church and near to Bishop Auckland attractions.
Food excellent.
Thank you.
The apartment had everything we required for an overnight.
Appreciated the extras, milk, bread, toiletries.
