Red Lion Hotel, hotel in Bucks Mills

Set in a charming fishing village, in the Hartland Devon Heritage Coast, The Red Lion Hotel features rooms with striking sea or harbor views. There is free private parking, free WiFi.

We liked being so close to the water and having the convenience of a bar and restaurant in our hotel. In the morning, we enjoyed watching people kayak and swim along the shore, and then walked up the steep hill to eat breakfast in another inn just for something different. Upon checkout, a kind hotel employee drove his Range Rover up the steep hill in front of us. That helped to relieve all the stress of driving our underpowered stick-shift rental car up the steep narrow drive while imagining another car coming down the hill towards us. Once we were on our way, we drove to nearby Hartland Point and after walking around the shops and restaurants where we purchased a wonderful book called The Salt Path: A Memoir by local author Raynor Winn (highly recommend it), we spent several hours hiking the gorgeous SW Coast Path. That was one of our best experiences.

Lovely stay. The bathroom is very spacious, with a nice bath and is squeaky clean. The room is very cosy with a biscuits and tea set. Breakfast was great, and it was lovely to talk to the hosts and get the know them. Location perfect to explore the area

The White House Cottage, hotel in Bucks Mills

The White House Cottage is located in Westward Ho, just 2.4 miles from Lundy Island and 21 miles from Watermouth Castle. This property offers access to a terrace and free private parking.

I booked last minute and from start finish the experience was superb. Sue kept in touch via text and was really accommodating. Sue's husband showed us around and gave us some local hints of where to visit; what a lovely person! The accommodation was warm, welcoming and spotless; more of a home from home than just somewhere to stay. Dog and child friendly. Value for money, coming in slightly cheaper than equivalent hotel's for the same amount of people; I'm glad I took the decision to go local, worth every penny!

I would not stay It had a bad damp odour on arrival Bathroom window broken. On letting the owner know One of his reply was if you book a a 1960 Chalet expect a wet damp smell, he was very unprofessional Sending txts till we’ll over 9:30pm Telling us about his chalet. It was very Dismal and no those days I thought had gone. we don’t and no body should have to accept a property not fit for purpose.

The chalet was basic but comfortable and warm.

The chalet was basic but comfortable and warm. It had all the facilities we needed. Just 2 adults meant ample space but a small family group would be comfortable there. Bucks Mills is a good base we ranged from Bude to Instow Along the coast and one day in Bideford and another at the RHS gardens in Torridge . There are many facilities available but we did not use them.
