The owners and staff were fantastic- so welcoming and looked after us very well. They were really friendly and great fun . My mother is coeliac & everything was so well organised for her from gluten free treats on arrival to all the lovely food at breakfast and dinner. It’s in a gorgeous location overlooking Slains Castle and a perfect base for touring around the area.

Room on the River, hotel in Cruden Bay

Offering a garden and garden view, Room on the River is situated in Cruden Bay, 17 km from Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club and 37 km from Hilton Community Centre.

Th owner is a wonderful accommodating and friendly host that makes you feel at home. The rooms are on the first floor with private entrances at the back of the residence. The house was designed and constructed as a B&B, with smartly designed features. Although the room is on the smaller side, it is efficiently designed with a nice size bathroom. Full-size tub and shower. A very large assortment of quality breakfast items provided in the room kitchen nook. Very convenient off-street parking in front of the B&B. Very comfortable bed and linens. Impeccably clean. Plenty of USB ports on each side of the bed, motion senor foot lights in the hall and bathroom, great design features.

Cruden Bay is the most wonderful place for a short little stay. The views are quite outstanding..the people so welcoming too. Should you wish a few days stay take in the seals at Newburgh sands Plenty places for a wee cuppa tea and home bakes from the View.

My late husband stayed in Cruden Bay before we met and we were married in Cruden Parish Church in August 1969. It certainly evoked a lot of memories for me. All happy ones. My sister and I ate in the hotel for our evening meal and breakfast. The Tuesday we wandered in the car to places remembered and as my sister had never spent time there it was an eye opener for her. Although the road through was busy, it is more of a commuter area than workplace.

Beautiful part of the country with lovely walks and stunning views. Cruden Bay is a pretty fishing village with a soft sandy beach. Nearby Bullers o' Buchan, a collapsed sea cave, is well worth a visit although care must be taken on the narrow cliff paths. We saw kittiwakes, cormorants, razor bills, guillemots, eider ducks and even a few puffins to mention but a few of the nesting birds. The walk to Slains Castle along the river valley from the centre of Cruden Bay was very picturesque and the views of the castle are impressive, perched on the cliff top. Sadly, the lead on the roof was removed in 1925 and sold for £10,000 to avoid paying taxes, hence its present state of decay. From 1893-1910 Bram Stoker visited annually and Slains Castle is the inspiration for the setting for Count Dracula. A seal colony at nearby Newburgh is also well worth a visit.
