Hartland is a lovely little village with some local stores and amenities, although bigger shops need a visit to Bideford. It's a great location to explore the countryside and the North Devon coastal path.

A good base to do coastal walks to Clovelly and Hartland Quay. The village itself has pubs for dining, cafe, restaurant and fish and chip shop. Two convenience stores one with Post Office. Hartland Abbey and gardens about a 20 minute walk away using public footpath.
Short drives to Bude, Bideford and Barnstaple.
A good place for stargazing! I actually saw comets during my stay!

Hartland Quay Hotel is wonderful.
Hartland Quay Hotel is wonderful. Donal and Sarah are exceptional host and their team of staff are also first class. My room was bright and had a great view. Breakfast was well cooked with a good selection from the cold buffet. I chose to eat my evening meal in the bar. Food was freshly cooked to order and very tasty. Good selection of drinks are also on offer.. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and intend to go back later in the year. Hartland is a hidden treasure.

The location is fantastic both for hiking and also doing...
The location is fantastic both for hiking and also doing some esay-going exercising like going for runs along the beautiful coast. The view is stunning, the hotel a great place to stay and the hosts there wonderful people to meet.
"We loved everything about the place except for the road leading to the hotel. The location, views, and overall ambiance of the place are unique and unforgettable. There are plenty of walks to choose from, and the rooms are comfortable and modern. However, the road on the other side is just one lane with no shoulders, as vegetation encroaches onto it, and visibility on both sides is zero. While this may be normal for locals, it can be very stressful for tourists who are not accustomed to driving on the left side."
I loved this little cottage, it had everything I needed and more. It was very cosy and cute. The bath tub was luxurious, and the fact that I could see animals outside the window was a bonus. Very nice garden area outback with a bench and picnic table and bbq! Perfect tranquil spot if you want to get away from everything but central to drive to all the good spots in Devon. Anna was very lovely and kindly provided a booklet with so much useful information in. Would love to stay again!
After a long period not visiting places due to Covid, it's easy to forget how exceptional B&B places are here in Devon. But even for Devon standards, the service at Philham House was just spectacular. Plenty of space, the most comfortable bed in a long time, peace and quiet, and an exquisite, friendly and fun service - without being intrusive in any way. Close to amazing beaches (especially Welcombe Mouth) and wonderful eateries.
I will be back for sure. Strongly recommended.
Nice, quite cottage, overlooking the Devon Hartland peninsula country side with a glimpse of the sea . Two nice, large double bedrooms (ensuite), large lounge/dining room, well equipped kitchen. Nice terrace to sit in. Owners very helpful and friendly also providing useful advice on places to visit in the area . Pet friendly - my dog was most welcome and well catered for! Freshly baked bread, milk, sugar tea and coffee waiting for us on arrival .
Hosts were very welcoming, provided some essentials such as homemade bread, eggs, milk butter etc, and delicious cake! Also helpful with suggestions for places to visit and eat. Location was great for exploring Devon and Cornwall and for walks such as the south west costal path. It’s perfect for taking dogs on holiday, ours loved running around the paddock. The cottage was very homely, spotlessly clean and had everything you could need!
A lovely warm welcome by Rosie, and she had put milk and a cream tea in the fridge for our arrival which was lovely. The property was clean and everything we needed was catered for. The beds were very comfortable. Hartland is so quaint and beautiful and Hartland Abbey is amazing and just down the road. such a great property, great value for money and perfect for a stay in Hartland, thanks Rosie.
Every member of staff was so helpful and friendly, the owner very kindly gave us a lift to Clovelly when our bus was cancelled and then down to Hartland Quay to start our second day of walking. Fabulous folk band played in the bar on our second night. Had two lovely evening meals. Room was comfortable and well appointed with a nice hot shower! Good breakfast too! What more could we want.
Located on the Hartland peninsula this is in a beautiful location, situated in the hamlet of Philham. Lorraine and Mark are both very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is good quality with a range of options available. You really are made to feel a welcome guest. Would gladly stay there again

The room was very updated with a comfortable bed. The hotels room were in a different part than the pub so it was quiet. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating and the food in the pub is nice. The area around the hotel has spectacular scenery.
All went very well. Hotel Team reacted to my wife's Vegan and GF dietary needs perfectly.
Room larger than expected, and comfy bed. All facilities you expect in a good hotel were there. Ample parking, and great attached bar and drinks selection
Very friendly hosts, even picked us up from Heartland Quay and drove us all the way to Clovelly where we had left our car. (as we had forgotten to take the keys to our second car that was parked in Hartland Quay!)
Breakfast not provided : self catering. Excellent location.Very friendly owner.Restful and quiet stay. Well equipped kitchen. comfy beds. Would definitely stay there again. Ideally situated for Clovelly.
Right by the sea and surf. Magical! Love the small hotel and lovely managers. Nice to have the Wreckers Restaurant at hand. Such a romantic site and they even have excellent wifi-fi!
What a fantastic find - I was born and bred in Devon and had never been to Hartland Quay before. The hotel was excellent and sunset from my bedroom window was awesome. I will be back!
Loved the simplicity of the place, set in beautiful Devonshire countryside with amazing views! Friendly and helpful hosts, would definitely stay again!
