The George, hotel in Loders

Situated in West Bay and with West Bay East Beach reachable within 200 metres, The George features a bar, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi and water sports facilities.

The "reception" area in the pub is a little chaotic but the greeting was warm enough and check-in easy. The room, with a view over the side of the pub and the river beyond was clean and had everything we needed including a hospitality tray. The bathroom was modern, light and spacious. The room could use new carpet and, maybe a bit of a refresh but it was all clean and perfectly serviceable. The George is well positioned for everything that West Bay has to offer. Breakfast was generous and freshly cooked with an excellent choice. There is also parking for residents at the side of the hotel but the seagulls pose a bit of a problem and our car looked as though someone had thrown a bucket of white paint over it come the morning. It was so bad that we had to borrow the hotel's hose to clean the worst of it off and find a car wash later in the day. It might be nice if they considered erecting some form of awning to keep the worst of this off the cars although I appreciate that with the seaside come seagulls! All in all not a bad stay but we felt that a little more attention to detail could really elevate this place (eg flower tubs and baskets, wash the seagull poop off the front elevation, better presented reception, small fridge in the room etc etc).
