Castle House Hotel, hotel in Madley

Between the beautiful Malvern Hills and the Welsh border, Castle House is situated in Hereford, 2 minutes’ walk from the cathedral. There is free Wi-Fi throughout, and free parking on site.

I was checking in late so whether coincidence or not I was upgraded to the main hotel rather than annex which I appreciated as a solo female traveller.

Easy reach of Hereford, we drove but it is on a bus route.

Easy reach of Hereford, we drove but it is on a bus route. Madley has a Londis, a chip shop and a pub, which has history but little else to recommend it; a huge church also with history, disappointingly not usually open and as so often these days not a service every Sunday. A delightfully peaceful village with a lovely play park; true rural England with a Church bell that tolls every quarter; but I didn't spot a cricket, bowls or football club to potter along to for a convivial imbibulation
