We have now made 3 stop-over visits to The Old Red Lion, and it is a bit of a gem in our view. With the fabulous Stourhead, and Alfred's Tower (well worth the 206 step Ascent), perfect hosts, food, views.

The hotel is right in the centre of Frome and has free parking. The parking area is a bit tricky to get in to, and requires an entry code for the padlock. I suggest you save yourself some aggravation and try to get the code before you arrive. Our room was fairly small, but the bathroom was really TINY. Noise from the street was quite intrusive as the room only had single glazing. Very weak toilet flush. Unable to use the hotel Wi-Fi as no sooner we logged on we were logged out again repeatedly! Couldn't be bothered to complain, so used our 4G for the duration. Breakfast was pretty good with a decent choice. Wouldn't want to stay for more than one night, though.

It’s a listed building. The pub has been there since 1311, but they have done an excellent job to make the venue one that you want to return to!

We had the most positive help from the bar man at the Bistro, who tried to sort out which room we were to have. There was some confusion about our booking, and the first room had not been cleaned, so he arranged for another room which was perfect. He was calm, helpful, and courteous, despite having to leave the busy bar to sort us out - a real star. Breakfast was good, bed superb.
The cottage is very clean, cosy and well equipped.
The cottage is very clean, cosy and well equipped. The gift basket in the kitchen was a very pleasant surprise. It contained tea and coffee essentials and also a few little treats and there was milk in the fridge; it was all very welcoming. It was a really delightful place to stay. Nunney Castle is a picturesque ruined castle and it was great to wander round it in the afternoon sunshine.
Nothing negative at all.
