The town is a busy little place with plenty of choices for eating out , bars etc. It a key access point for two heritage railways, and for Portmeiron. Black Rock Bay is superb, rolling dunes and sandy bay for miles. Very large holiday home resorts back onto the bay, though well hidden. So expect some very busy times and lots of families enjoying their weekends and holidays, out of season the beach is perfect for beach walks.

Great restaurant's to take your pick from.

Great restaurant's to take your pick from. A really lovely pub (The Australia) highly recommend and the Snowdonia national park on your doorstep . you can also take advantage of the main line train to do large sections of the Wales coastal path getting off and walking a section and on again at different stations, Note, please tell the conductor witch station you want to get off at as the train doesn't stop automatically at all stations. Welsh coastal path is stunning in and around porthmadog well worth walking.

We primarily chose this hotel so that we could spend time in Port Meirion village. We did go into Porthmadog and took a ride on the steam train. There are shops and cafes in Porthmadog but we dis not visit them.

Porthmadog is the perfect place to stay when visiting Portmerion, or if walking and exploring the area. It does have a pretty harbour/marina. There are plenty of choices for eating out. Plus the heritage railway is a short walk.

The staff are the greatest asset for this hotel, all of the staff without exception were friendly, courteous and very helpful. Annette, Miro and Dean went above and beyond and gave exceptional service. Jade, Will and the others were all very good too. Location is excellent and makes an ideal base for touring this area. The restaurant is good for those who wish to remain in the hotel for dinner, and pre-dinner drinks on the terrace overlooking the grounds was superb. The rooms are attractive and extremely clean with a very comfortable bed.

Great location next to train station as I went by train from Carnoustie in Scotland to Porthmadog ( handy for various outings in North Wales). Fantastic price. Friendly owner. Lucky that no-one was in the room which I would have shared the bathroom with but owner has plans to make all rooms en-suite). Owner is trying very hard to upgrade the property in difficult times but I had a great time. I had never been to Wales before and was travelling on my own as a 50+ lady. I found the Welsh people very friendly and had a great time.

If you are a fan of gardens or "The Prisoner" this is a must stay. It's wonderful to wonder around and enjoy the fountains, and gardens along with nostalgia from the tv show. The village rooms were clean and well kept. The buildings are aging, with squeaky floor and all. The shops close early but meals can be had at the hotel in the village and at the castle. We had dinner on the patio along with several other guests. Curriers run people around in carts allowing for a feel of royalty.

This is a Tale of Two Rooms. The first night we were in a twin room in the attic. it was on the 3rd floor and I can barely walk. There was no lift. The room sucked so bad my husband told them we would not stay for a second night. The reception hostess was so nice. she managed to switch our room from the attic to the best room in the hotel for the 2nd night that room was very nice. it had a private patio, a king bed plus a twin, a larger bathroom and we were quite happy with it.

Very good location in the center of porthmadog. Easy access to town, shops, pubs, port... But can be challenging for elderly due to position on hill. Big house, very well equipped kitchen, clean and modern bathrooms. New comfortable mattresses. Very nice area for holiday of any category. Host very helpful, good communication.

I love the mix of old and new. The accommodation was like an older private hotel, maintained by themselves with wonky floors and old fire doors. Mixed with modern statements in decor. A very modern brasserie restaurant and bar area, well decorated and food was top class in choice, presentation and quality.
