The Ramblers' Rest - Princetown, hotel in Princetown

23 miles from Newton Abbot Racecourse in Princetown, The Ramblers' Rest - Princetown provides accommodations with access to spa facilities.

Great location close to the crossroads in the center of Dartmoor. 5 minute drive from Wistman's Wood, and very close to many other fantastic locations as well. (Note that the attached photo was taken with a zoom lens from the edge of the wood, please do not walk into the wood!) There are many excellent framed photographs hanging all over the hotel from local landscape photographer Greg Braund. The drying room was fantastic and really useful since it was a very wet weekend! Owner Nikki was nice and very hospitable. The hot tub is great, and really huge! Comfy beds.

Two Bridges Hotel, hotel in Princetown

In Dartmoor National Park, the Two Bridges Hotel has stunning countryside views and overlooks the River Dart. The hotel offers luxurious traditionally-styled rooms and has a restaurant.

The hotel staff were very friendly, the lounge was very comfortable and the food very good. A good selection of local beers available at the bar. We were able to leave our dog in the room while we went for meals which not all hotels allow. The room was well appointed and comfortable.

East Dart Inn, hotel in Princetown

Located in Yelverton, 19 miles from Newton Abbot Racecourse, East Dart Inn has accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

I had a great overnight stay at the East Dart Inn. Travelling across the fog-bound Moor and arriving at this ancient coaching inn was a real delight. The (reasonably new) owner and the staff were all very helpful in catering for my dietary needs - nothing was too much trouble. The bar where I had dinner was beautifully decorated for Hallow'een, adding to the atmosphere. Again, my gluten free requirements were well catered for at breakfast the next morning. The surrounding moorlands are breathtaking - all in all, a terrific stay.

Room was a family room, 2 bedroom very clean.

Room was a family room, 2 bedroom very clean. Make sure you drive the A road up to the property not the B road if you don’t like height’s. Bar stops serving food at 9pm so if travelling late maybe ask them to save you something or make a sandwich. Remember you are high up so the weather can be very different to what it is further down the hill.

Restaurant closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and en-suite shower room was really really small so not worth the extra charge. Staff and breakfast excellent and location fantastic. Frontage could be given more kerb appeal.

For walking, the Princetown area is excellent for walkers and hikers when the weather is benign. In season, there are several eating places in the town whilst there are good facilities in and close to the neighbouring Postbridge area. Public transport in Princetown is minimal.

Went to the prison museum which was worth a visit and it came across as cold and hard but then the prison was like that years ago, the tourist information in the old hotel is worth a look round and has various exhibitions running. Plenty of walking and cycle path from Princetown but watch the weather as it can quickly change as it did when I was there.
