The Manor House, hotel in Puncknowle

The Manor House is set in West Bexington and 250 metres from Chesil Beach and Lym Bay. This charming property dates back to the 16th century and opens onto a lovely garden and terrace.

Very well organised and comfortable, perfect for relaxing. Really liked the little touches such as leaving classic fm playing in the room before returning after day out. Beds are super comfortable too.

The George, hotel in Puncknowle

Situated in West Bay and with West Bay East Beach reachable within 200 metres, The George features a bar, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi and water sports facilities.

The "reception" area in the pub is a little chaotic but the greeting was warm enough and check-in easy. The room, with a view over the side of the pub and the river beyond was clean and had everything we needed including a hospitality tray. The bathroom was modern, light and spacious. The room could use new carpet and, maybe a bit of a refresh but it was all clean and perfectly serviceable. The George is well positioned for everything that West Bay has to offer. Breakfast was generous and freshly cooked with an excellent choice. There is also parking for residents at the side of the hotel but the seagulls pose a bit of a problem and our car looked as though someone had thrown a bucket of white paint over it come the morning. It was so bad that we had to borrow the hotel's hose to clean the worst of it off and find a car wash later in the day. It might be nice if they considered erecting some form of awning to keep the worst of this off the cars although I appreciate that with the seaside come seagulls! All in all not a bad stay but we felt that a little more attention to detail could really elevate this place (eg flower tubs and baskets, wash the seagull poop off the front elevation, better presented reception, small fridge in the room etc etc).

Tiny little place - but great for walking (except the weather was wet and windy when we were there!). The position is good for exploring / travelling to other popular areas of Dorset - inland and coastal.

Such a beautiful area, typically Dorset country. Rolling hills, gentle green slopes, undulating countryside, beautiful sea views. Good pubs in the area without having to go too far. Beautiful villages close by, attractive houses, a few independent small shops but mostly keeping the villages as close to how you might expect a Dorset village to look.

Puncknowle (pronounced Punnel) is a very quiet village...

Puncknowle (pronounced Punnel) is a very quiet village situated just North of Swyre on the B3157 (the most amazing views of Chesil Beach and The Fleet when travelling east towards Weymouth). Surrounded by rolling hills and arable farmland with easy access to Dorchester, Bridport or Weymouth, it would make an ideal base for walkers and cyclists alike. Chesil Beach and the Jurassic Coast can be reached by foot or bike via West Bexington (under 2 miles), and there are plenty of good tea houses or traditional country pups in the surrounding villages. The stretch of coastline between West Bay in the West and Portland in the East offers some of the most interesting geology and the coastal road is packed with stunning views.

Perfect location in a small, very friendly village within easy reach of beautiful coastline and beaches in both Dorset and Devon. The local pub is just around the corner. Although this pub is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, there are a number of other pubs within a few minutes drive from the village. All were very accommodating of our very large dog and all served very good food. Parking at the property is easy and Kevin (host) was very friendly and helpful.

Great romantic house perfect for a relaxing stay with view of the sea and the countryside. Handy pub downstairs with no unpleasant noise or anything bad, in fact very typical and good British pub. Accommodation totally recommended due to location, outlook and good manners of hosts.

A delightful thatched cottage in a good village location within 2 miles of Chesil Beach. Our holiday was out of season and we were greeted with a lovely warm centrally heated house. The cottage had bags of quirky character.
