Five pubs within a stones throw of each other in the main square. My kind of town.
The Crown was excellent and recommended by three different random strangers
Best stocked co-op I’ve ever seen 😆
Friendly people in the shops and pubs.

The Triangle has good food and proper beer.
The Triangle has good food and proper beer. Also The Lamb and Flag serves a good pint of Cwrw. You must visit the 5 reservoirs whatever the weather. We only managed 2 on our 3 day visit as the weather was poor. However as it rained so much the overtopping of Claerwen dam was spectacular to see and hear.

Everything you could need is there.
Everything you could need is there. Friendly welcoming community. Excellent pubs, cafes and takeaways. Good shops. Prices very good. Lots of places to visit.localy. Remember there's no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing. Everywhere is dog friendly.. We love Elan, great visitor centre, with gift shop, not overpriced and a coffee shop with great food, dog and child friendly. Great place to burn off excess energy, walk, bike,or run. Cheap parking, free hour or £3 all day. Lots of wild life and facilities for disabled people.

We came to Rhayader to go round the Elan Valley dams as we do each New Year. This time we decided to stay overnight and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in spite of the torrential rain. Whilst we enjoyed bed and breakfast at The Bear, we dined in the Crown in the evening where the food was excellent and the beer was good as well. The staff were great at the Bear and the Crown.
The Elan Valley and its dams, built to supply Birmingham with water and opened about 120 years ago, just a mile of two from Rhayader are well worth a visit to see the Victorian engineering. The Visitor Centre, as well as serving brilliant bacon baps and a cuppa, also houses a museum and shop where there is so much information about building the dams and the things that you can do in the valley like walking, cycling, bird watching and much more. We had a good time there.

Hafod Hardware shop is a must as its sells an eclectic mix of items and a visit to the tearoom by the clock tower. The only negative would be the lack of understanding of most drivers on how to negotiate the roads around the clock tower !

Amazing location to visit, stunning scenery!
Amazing location to visit, stunning scenery!
We’ve visited this area a few times over the years & it never disappoints, we Cycle or Walk as there’s plenty of well sign posted trails in the Elan Valley.
This place is located on the road between Rhayader village and the dams. It’s secluded and quiet. The village itself is fairly busy and noisy so the quiet is great.
Our room was at the back part of the house. Very roomy with a huge bed. Everything was clean and very comfortable, other than the bathroom.
The hosts do serve a limited menu dinner which was not outrageously priced and was quite good. Breakfast was excellent.
The hosts, including their old dog, are helpful, friendly and worth a chat.
Lovely location in the centre of Rhayader so very convenient for shopping or going out for meals. The house is set back from the road and so is very quiet. The area for parking is spacious and there was outdoor seating (suitable for meals outdoors) at both the front and back of the house. The house was very modern, nicely furnished and the kitchen facilities were excellent. The wifi worked really well too. Overall the house was outstanding value for money.
Excellent location in the centre of Rhayader, near to the main co-op store. Parking was no problem as the property had its own allocated parking space. The Elan Valley was just down the road. The accommodation was very new, with a bright and airy open plan kitchen diner and lounge. The bedroom and bathroom were sparkling. You have to provide your own towels which is no problem as we were informed of this up front.
The property itself was amazing, nice and modern and two good sized bedrooms. Kitchen had everything you could need and the hosts had provided milk etc which come in handy. Nice location close to a nice little town if you're not from the area. Food places near by and lots of nice walks for the dog. Hot tub was really good and easy to use.
Had an amazing stay here, food was delicious! Really cosy, friendly atmosphere. Perfect for a one night stay for a solo traveller and her dog.
Great location for me as it was a midway point for my journey up north and easily accessible to the nearby dams and waterfalls.
Rhayader is a beautiful community situated near Brecon Beacons National Park. The Guesthouse is within walking distance of the town center. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, breakfast was great, staff were very engaging & helpful. We had a very nice visit.
Excellent location a few minutes walk into town and very quiet. Rhayader is a lovely town with some nie pubs to eat in and is very close to the Elan Valley which is lovely. Room was very nice and comfortable, great shower, superb breakfast and great views
Breakfast was not at the Lamb & Flag, but adequate at Ty Morgan's nearby. The access to & from the property was easy as I was given my own key, and my room was only on the 1st floor. The village had a good mix of convenience shops & pubs.
The hotel was in a good location for me, it was 30mins away from where I needed to be the next day.
The staff were friendly and checking in was easy enough.
The bar area had a good environment and the food was good, with good service.
Great location in mid Wales, fantastic breakfast with locally sourced food. Room was small but adequate. Staff were really friendly and food was good quality. The hotel also has it's own parking which is unusual for the village.
The room was clean and comfortable with a good bathroom. We didn't buy breakfast but used the co-op nearby as suggested by our host. This was a good convenient overnight stop for us. the parking was good.
Quirky room, nice and large with everything you need for self catering. Good location with a number of pubs and restaurants in walking distance, the area is absolutely beautiful and great to explore.
Lovely room and en suite facilities were wonderful.
Breakfast was first class.
The views from the hotel are breathtaking.
The location is perfect, a short walk from all the facilities.
Excellent location for places of interest; Elan Valley dams, Aberystwyth, Builth Wells are easy to travel from the hotel. The staff were fab, the food was lovely. Can't fault anything
Lovely cottage- comfortable and well equipped. Great location. Always spaces available to park on-street near property. Comfortable beds. Hot showers. Great communication from host.
