With a bar and restaurant, Riverside Hotel sits in the Staffordshire village of Branston on the banks of the River Trent.

The staff were so friendly and helpful. Even though the hotel staff were dealing with an emergency water leak, it did not affect our stay at all. The location was so lovely.

Dovecliff Hall Hotel, hotel in Swadlincote

This splendid Georgian house sits in 7 acres of peaceful and picturesque gardens. Dating back to 1790, it offers individually designed rooms and traditional fine dining in its elegant restaurant.

A fantastic location, peaceful and picturesque. The hotel/house was magnificent and decorated tastefully and and stylish. Our room was beyond expectation. Beautiful views from large bay windows and a very handy and comfortable Chez Long to take it all in from. Spacious yet cosy, well decorated and set out. The roll top bath made for easy relaxation. Afternoon tea was fab, followed by a walk through the gardens and down to the river. The staff were both professional and friendly. Very helpful and cheery. Breakfast was a treat, the food was really tasty. We totally recommend a visit and stay here, and will be doing so ourselves again. Thank you everyone for making our stay as great as it was.

The property is in Moira not in Swadlincote which is three miles away. Moira is and old mining village on the edge of the Ashby Canal. You can walk along the canal for ten minutes to Conkers, a free park and the entrance to Conkers Water Park ( entrance fee.) Conkers Adventure park is accessed from the village the other side of the canal. The canal in the other direction takes you to Moira Furnace Museum (small fee) and Donisthorpe Country Park. Visit NT Calke Abbey. Abbey de la Zouche Castle and market town and Lichfield Cathdral.

Swadlincote is a good centre for countryside and riverside walks. It is handy for Derby, Ashby de la Zouch, Leicester and especially Burton-on-Trent. Burton is an excellent shopping centre. There is a lovely park by the river. You can take a tour of the local Brewery and have a lovely lunch, or snack in the tap house. The National Memorial Arboretum is very close just off the A38, and should not be missed - a tranquil and beautiful setting for memorials, not only to the Armed Forces but also the Police, victims of the Twin Towers, and many others.
