It was January, so we can say nothing of the outdoor delights of the town. The object of our visit was to visit wineries, and in this we were largely successful. Eifert produced a formal wine-tasting just for the two of us, despite the website putting a lower limit on four, and this was extremely knowledgeably and pleasantly cjoreographed. We briefly visited Mr Erdős, one of the producers of Soltvadkert's famour Ezerjó before visiting the town's excellent Venyige restaurant. Even Soltvadkert's primary winemaker, Frittmann, provided an opportunity to taste their wine in their shop. As we left, we met Mr Frittmann himself, who seeing that we ere short of time very generously offered us a ride in his minibus to the Galántai winery. In this way we could taste a fair number of wines for which the "Golden Triangle" is - or should be - famed: Ezerjó, Generosa, Kövidinka and Pozsonyi fehér, among more widespread varieties such as tramini, Irsai and Cserszegi fűszeres.
Another 48 hours would have been about right to visit some of the other wineries... but at least we have a good excuse to return. We might even visit the motorbike museum! We'll definitely eat at Restaurant Venyige!
