Hiraizumi is a fairly small town with a lot of rich culture.

Hiraizumi is a fairly small town with a lot of rich culture. You can visit all the historical sites in the area within 2 days. Folks are friendly, and are always willing to assist foreigners visiting the area. In the evening, the area shuts down fairly early, and it can be difficult to find restaurants and bars, since most signs are written in Kanji, and there are only a few areas around. I would recommend this town to anyone that wants to have a cultural experience unlike any Western style. It’s amazing to think how old the area is, and it really takes you back and makes you think.

    Hiraizumi was outstanding.

Hiraizumi was outstanding. A picturesque and peaceful place, teeming with history and culture. There are beautiful parks, gardens and rice fields. We hired bicycles at the train station and saw the main sights across one day and were very relaxed. Chuson ji complex is, in my opinion, more beautiful than many of the more popular sites in areas like Kyoto. The people were so friendly and welcoming. The public onsen is excellent and we were made to feel very welcome by the local clientele. I would make this a definite stop on any Japanese trip
