Hostel Inn Hashimoto, hotel in Kawachinagano

Located in Hashimoto, 14 miles from Subaru Hall, Hostel Inn Hashimoto has accommodations with a restaurant, free private parking and a bar.

we needed a place to stay while visiting Koyasan, and we didn't want the austere accommodations at the town. Hashimoto is a compromise location, the only town within reasonable distance to Koyasan. Hashimoto is a sleepy little town, with little offerings for even dining. But, it is the only game available if you want to reach Koyasan within an hour. The hosts really tried hard to run things well, and the facility met our need. It was clean and well kept. No dining facilities unless you order meals at time of booking. Local restaurants are, shall we say, basic. People are nice, though.

Sanso Amanosato, hotel in Kawachinagano

Located in Katsuragi, 17 miles from Tama Museum, Sanso Amanosato provides accommodations with free bikes, free private parking, a garden and a bar.

This was an exceptional property in every way. Though the rooms are European style, the singular cabins, the passage ways, the main building, all have a very Japanese architectural feel. This is located about 20km from Koyasan, and sits among rice paddies just a bike ride from a local shrine. It gives you the chance to glide along on deserted roads and happen upon a major pilgramage shrine along the Kumano Kodo. The Kaiseki meal was superb, with about 10 courses of sublime cooking and service of the highest order. The staff may have been a little nervous as we don't speak Japanese, but they fared well. The presentation was, as is the Japanese way, giving a nod to the autumn season with fall flowers and leaves presenting the food as art. The Onsen were private so that couples can enjoy with eachother, three possibilities were available, with small gardens outside each. Our suite also had a huge round tub to enjoy as well. The bathroom was of exceptional design. We had a hedge of blooming flowers outside the porch doors where beautiful and unusual butterflies were feeding.

Kawachinagano has some of the nicest backyard mountains with gentle sloping ascends to hike, amazing picturesque sceneries that stretch for miles beyond the horizons and sweet refreshing mountain air that encapsulates the peaceful zen. The ryokan kaiseki experience is also one-of-a-kind, having some of the freshest produce sourced locally to create unique individual elements that harmonizes overall into a seasonal course. Scenic trails scattered around the idyllic countryside also provides many avenues with which leisurely strolls can be taken to calm and soothe the busy soul.

Our night at Nanten-En was a truly unique experience and a highlight of our visit to Japan. I loved that the hotel had such a historic background, beautiful location (easily accessed), staff were all so accommodating, interesting and gracious. The room was beautiful with tatami mats and a seating are overlooking an aesthetic and private garden. The dinner was unforgettable and tasty, served in our room by attentive staff breakfast the next day was also very delicious. We also enjoyed the onsen. Altogether highly recommended!

Loved the onsen. The healing quality of the spring waters was exceptional. The bathing facilities were excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Special shout out to Gary, who preparerd us for Koya San and always seemed to show up when we needed English translation. He even helped us with our luggage to the train station. The hotel is in a lovely garden setting and so serene. Breakfast was very good and geared to our diet. 90 meters to the Amami station was super convenient. Don't miss Koya San.

The kaiseki dinner was amazing!! My favorite meal during my three week trip in Japan. Owners were very nice and spoke English well, they described every course during our dinner. Onsen facilities were great! Beautiful out door area. Located RIGHT next to a station so easy to get to. They will hold your luggage in the morning before you check in which is really nice.
