Hotel Route-Inn Nakatsugawa Inter, hotel in Nakatsugawa

A Japanese restaurant with a free Japanese/Western breakfast buffet, a hot public bath and massage services await guests at Hotel Route-Inn Nakatsugawa Inter, a 7-minute drive from JR Nagatsugawa...

The place is fairly convenient. The room is clean and comfortable with all the amenities required for a short stay. Very polite and helpful staff, not to mention that the food is really nice! It comes with a complimentary breakfast but I had my dinner at the hotel as well and it was great.

Onn nakatsugawa, hotel in Nakatsugawa

Featuring 4-star accommodations, Onn nakatsugawa is located in Nakatsugawa, 8.1 miles from Ōi and 8.2 miles from Enakyo Wonderland.

This was my favorite hotel on this trip to Japan. Room was very comfy and had a great view from the 5th floor. Super clean and modern property. Shoes are left in lockers in reception area which keeps the carpets clean and footsteps quiet. Breakfast was included for me and there were lots of options in the buffet. Good location, about 10 minutes walking from train station and big grocery store. I used this as a base to hike sections of the Nakasendo Trail. Staff was very helpful and communicated well in English.

Magome Chaya, hotel in Nakatsugawa

Just 131 feet from restored Edo-era post town Magome-Juku, Chaya Hotel has simple traditional rooms with futon bedding and a tatami-mat floor.

We love everything about Magome Chaya! I loved the traditional style and we appreciate dearly the hosts namely Ms Jeng with her husband and Ms Maria! Outstanding service! The guesthouse is clean and even though the bathrooms are shared, its adequate for all the guests. The highlight of our stay is the dinner and breakfast! Amazing food served with love and presented in an extremely beautiful manner!

We had the entire accommodation to ourselves, and this included the living room, the bedroom with bunk beds, 2 shower rooms, kitchenette and 1 toilet. Lots of games to keep the family occupied during the stay. Bunk beds were super cosy and comfy. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Guesthouse SHIGI, hotel in Nakatsugawa

Guesthouse SHIGI offers accommodations in Nakatsugawa, 29 miles from Gero Station and 15 miles from Ōi. This guest house provides free private parking, a shared kitchen, and free Wifi.

I loved everything about this place. Absolutely the highlight of my trip. And funny enough, there was no other guests so I had the whole place to myself! The town is very cute and the house is just incredible. It had everything a person could ask for in an accommodation. Everything works perfectly. The design is very beautiful. The house is even more beautiful in real life. I will never forget it. I think I told Assi how much I loved it too many times :) Assi was the most helpful host, he was very friendly, curious to know about my trip, he even picked me up from the station when I unfortunately missed the train. And dropped me off to the bus stop when I wanted to visit the near village. I hope to visit it again in future. Thank you again, thank you very much.

We stayed in Nakatsugawa in order to spend time walking on the Nakasendo Trail. It was a good home base for doing so! It’s possible to take a cab or a bus to the post towns to start your walk, or to end it. Nakatsugawa is also known for its abundant chestnut snacks and sweets which we sampled and truly enjoyed. It was really nice to be in a part of Japan that has fewer tourists and is more quiet.

This is about Magome Juku - not Nakatsugawa.

This is about Magome Juku - not Nakatsugawa. Frankly whilst it's quaint, picturesque and reasonably true to form it's frankly a bit of a tourist trap and quite crowded. The buildings are almost all souvenir shops or restaurant / tea houses. With a few exceptions many are selling the same stuff, usually at higher prices than can be bought elsewhere. Glad we went but won't return

As previously reviewed, we are still annoyed that we had to argue at length with the staff (over half an hour) to have the sofa bed made up with linen. Their policy apparently is to only provide linen when there are 3 guests sharing the room advertised as 'Double Bed plus Sofa' and confirmed in writing via booking.com that I had booked a room with 2 beds. The hotel was demanding further payment otherwise my friend and I were expected to share the bed. They eventually agreed to make an exception. The air con unit also only had instructions in Japanese and we found it impossible to turn it down The room was very small and the aircon unit sounded all night as if we were flying in an airplane.

Nakatsugawa was a very pleasant town with an excellent shopping centre and good restaurants. Soba noodle seem to be a specialty in many. It was also a handy base for taking a bus to Magome for the Nakasendo Way walk to Tsumago and in the opposite direction to Ochiai, via the historic stone-paved 800m road.

Our primary reason for visiting was the walk from Magome to Tsumago. It's a lovely outing. Very enriching to see Japanese countryside after the big cities of central Honshu. The quality and restfulness of Iwasu-so was an unexpected delight.

The old town was lovely and came over as very authentic.

The old town was lovely and came over as very authentic. Be prepared to walk about 20 mins from the main station to the historic part of town. The people were lovely. I was there on a VERY rainy Monday and not a lot was open but I did find a wonderful izakaya almost immediately over the road and the food was amazing. Good base for hiking out of Magome- get the early bus to skip the crowds in the trail. Magome won’t be open but by the time you get to the end of the trail there will be a nice Japanese man with hot steamed buns ready for you.

located right on the main street of Magome-juku, Magome Chaya is a great place for a nights rest in the historic post town before heading on the way to your next destination. The rooms are clean, japanese style with tatami mats and futons. You have ample space to stretch out, and there are common rooms for you to mingle. I particularly enjoyed watching the sunrise in the morning, when the town is quiet. The stores close early, but they serve an exceptional dinner in the restaurant (highly recommend).

This is someone's home with only two rooms available to rent, which makes the stay extremely unique and personal. I stayed two nights at the end of my hiking the Nakasendo, and just relaxed and enjoyed the traditional house. Not much in town, but the Okonomiyaki restaurant down the road was a treat, as i was welcomed by the owner and the guests and had a wonderful evening. SHIGI has only recently been renovated by the new owner, speaks great English is very helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay!

we stayed here in what has been (and surely will be) the best guesthouse experience of all during our trip to Japan. We instantly fell in love with this beautiful house and its calming serene atmosphere. The kitchen is well equipped and the futon beds and bedding were cosy and warm. Atsushi, the owner, was lovely to talk to and introduced us to his collection of japanese and international music. highly recommended!!

it’s a very traditional ryokan (japanese country inn). The building itself is a very old fashioned wooden structure. The rooms have sliding doors and tatami mat floors. The hosts are very nice and speak good English, and make a damn good japanese dinner and breakfast for an extra 3300 and 1100 yen respectively. The clientele was mostly western tourists and I had a great time getting to know my fellow travelers.

On of the best stay we have in Japan, very clean room, bathroom, bathroom Everything is simple yet wonderful Great location in this small town Highly recommend for you that need clean moderen ryokan house Bathroom dan toilet is sharing, but not a together bathroom so if you cannot bath with other person together, this place is perfect. Because other ryokan usually have bathroom that take bath together.

What a fantastic stay we had!!! Keiko is a fantastic host, who cooks like a dream. Our favourite stay of our 3 weeks in Japan. The room we had was spacious and spotless. We walked to Tsumago and got the bus back so stayed 2 nights rather than doing baggage transfer. Use Nakatsugawa train station and get the bus to Magome Cannot recommend this place enough.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful part of the town, right on the Nakasendo Trail. Convenient parking. So much charm and character and the staff were lovely and super helpful. Dinner and breakfast were both amazing - definitely recommend getting these! Very comfy futon and pillow, decent sizeroom with large cupboard for bags.

A spacious and beautifully decorated Japanese-style room.  Meals at the level of Michelin stars.  The food is delicious to the mouth and to the eyes as well.  A welcoming hostess.  Breathtaking view.  What else does a person need to have fun?  We really enjoyed staying here.

Spacious apartment with our own kitchen and extremely comfortable futons (best of our trip by far!). Though there is no food available there, they were proactive in making us a dinner reservation in town. Host even hand delivered our luggage to our next hotel in Tsumago.

The traditional Japanese guesthouse experience was unique and special. The set meals were phenomenal. The staff was terrific. The owner performed a traditional samurai song and dance after dinner that was great. Location is right on the main street of the town.

Well looked after. A business style hotel, but, as a foreign tourist visiting over new year, the staff made sure I had what I needed to do some hiking and where to eat. The onsen, a daily ritual for many domestic visitors, was a treat. Helpful and kind.
