Most restaurants around Nikko Stations close early.

Most restaurants around Nikko Stations close early. Only a few are open after 7 pm. Beyond Central Nikko or in outer Nikko/ Oku-Nikko there are are more interesting scenic hiking trails and sightseeing spots. Need to plan as bus frequencies are affected by weather and waiting time can be long.

We visited quite a few places during our two week stay in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and then we took a two day bike ride from Imabari to Onomichi). Nikko was the most beautiful of the beautiful places we visited. Took a bus ride up the hill and hiked in the forest which boasts two types of bear, deer and monkeys. The temple was beautiful and we enjoyed trying local food. We each had a "Yuba set" at a local restaurant.

The rooms were freezing cold no heating and it was -5 inside the hotel. They provided us with one thin blanket nothing like advertised, the windows were open and unable to close. We are having to seek medical help as one of my friends has developed hypothermia. No food no drink and the toilet facility does not flush. Said in advert the beds would be made up for us. After a vicious scolding by the owners wife we had to awkwardly make up our own beds with no instructions at all. If you like being shouted at, sleeping on a solid cold floor with a stone for a pillow this is definitely the place for you. Didn't really wanna even give the one star but no choice for 0*.

Nikko is a lovely small place.

Nikko is a lovely small place. The local Chinese on the high street has amazing food, it has a very small door and would be easy to miss, but make the effort to find it. The temples are amazing, but I loved the mountains, if you like trekking then you will love Nikko.

Fabulous place to visit with the right balance between nature walks and temple and shrine visits. Our favorite visits were Toshogu and Rinno-ji Temples, a day trip to Chuzenji Lake and Kegon Falls with a walk towards the Italian and English Embassy residences was beautiful. If you still have time, the Imperial Tomozawa Villa is worth spending a couple of hours at. We did everything by bus and it was very well organised. Train station has convenient coin lockers for luggage and a Yamato counter to deliver your luggage at your hotel so you can start visiting without being troubled.

i loved the variety of hiking trails - there was no shortage of beautiful nature. there are populated trails and quieter trails, and the bus service was very convenient once i got the hang of it. while the shrines were pretty enough, i preferred the rinnoji shrine gardens and would have preferred to spend more time hiking instead of fighting with the crowds at toshugu shrine. senjogahara was stunning and i would have liked to spend more time at the yumoto and kirifuri trails. october was a little early for autumn leaves, so maybe i will return later in the year next time. that said, it was a pity i just missed the shrine festival this year!

Great ryokan with a pervasive Japanese aesthetic that made everything feel very special while still having plenty of the amenities of a regular hotel. Easy walk from the train station across the cool bridge and the oni stairs. I highly recommend eating there as well since the private dining and great Japanese style meals were also quite excellent. Onsen was also nice, and the couple of massage chairs outside bathing area were a nice bonus. The room we got was pretty spacious for the two of us. A super nice experience overall!!!

The hotel is located at a nice location with excellent view from the room. The staffs were very helpful in supporting us for all needs. The two gentlemen at the reception were so welcoming. The restaurant staffs were also very nice, one staff were fully with us through out the dinner time to explain about the dishes as we were new to Japanese cuisine (Ms Rupani did an excellent job(sorry if I misspelled the name)) . Hospitality shown by each staff were outstanding. The onsen was also great. Overall it was a great experience.

The location was great if you planned to hike the loop trail along the Nikko abyss. Hotel is right beside it! The private onsen was easy to reserve at no extra cost and very nice for relaxing alone. The wood features throughout are lovely with a large community area for relaxing. The rooms are small but the beds are cozy. We loved the tasty toasted pastry breakfast selections which went well with the good coffee. Friendly host gave us free parking after checkout so that we could walk around without rushing.

I was very surprised by the rating of this hotel. It is definitely worth more than 3 stars on booking. I loved how spacious the room was and the tv was a great size compared to other hotels in Japan. Also the king sized bed was very comfortable with luxurious pillows & bedding. I loved the minimalistic feel of the lobby and the room with accents of black fixtures. It is very aesthetic and gave that wabi sabi feel. Would definitely recommend 10/10 and will stay again in the future.

My stay at Ritz Carlton Nikko was simply fantastic. Put a tremendously passionate, dedicated group of people through a world-class Ritz Carlton hospitality training program and you get service that's nothing short of perfection. The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful, it's facilities (both spa and public onsen) were amazing, and food was thoughtful, delicious, and wholesome. My wife and I could not have asked for more and yearn to be back in the, hopefully, near future.

Very warm welcome from what has the feel of a family run hotel. Very Japanese experience, but also made easy for overseas guests. The breakfast had a good selection. Great location with view of the lake, right by the boat pier. Sofa in the window for relaxation. Good onsen. Japanese dinner was excellent with a variety of items. Despite the bus-stop being behind the hotel, the host insisted on driving us to Nikko as it was pouring with rain. What a kind gesture!

Our stay was wonderful. While the town itself is not exactly bustling, the hotel was excellent and easily accessible to nearby Nikko world heritage sites and hikes. The breakfast and dinner buffets were unbelievably wonderful filled with high quality Japanese delights. The rooftop onsen was gorgeous and updated. Our Japanese- style room was lovely and spacious. It is an older hotel but still very popular among the Japanese. Buffet Breakfast was okay. Room was very clean and comfortable. Not too far from all the major sites. Private onsen room reservations available. Springtime in Nikko is great, it exceeded our expectations. You can easily spend the entire day visiting all the temples and shrines north of the Shinkyo bridge.

Hidden gem! We loved our stay at this authentic traditional Japanese hotel, walking in kimono and resting in onsen. The rooms were cozy and spacious. The hotel staff was really friendly and helpful. The location is great, surrounded by nature and a short hike. We went for waterfalls and AMAZING Nikko shrines just in 15-30 min drive. Highly recommend!

Probably one of the best host we had in Japan! Everything was well organised and thoughtful. The house is very close to the train station and the supermarket. The hotel is just fine. It's old, yes, the man at the front desk is a bit grumpy, yes, (could also be his lack of English) but the rooms are rather spacious, have everything you need and the hotel is the cheapest option in Nikko. And I personally liked the old 70s charm.
