You will need a few days to visit all the places that Shirahama has to offer. The beach if fabulous, heard that the sand was import from Perth, Australia. is great, white and fine. There is a few spots to eat, but not too family oriented, maybe it was because we went off season. The onsens around the area are ideal to relax and recover energy. Check out the feet onsen over looking Engetsuto Island.

Beautiful beach, awesome landscapes, and great restaurants.

Beautiful beach, awesome landscapes, and great restaurants. Highly recommend visiting the Sandanbeki cliffs, gorgeous views. Also go to Ashiato if you want delicious American style sandwiches. Look for the "American Sando" banners/signs right by the Shirahama Beach bus stop. There is a small aquarium that is nice and a very interesting fertility shrine called "kanki" that you should visit as well. If you come in August you might be able to catch some phenomenal fireworks. The bus is very easy to use, it basically just goes up and down the coast, where most everything you want to see/do is. There are some theme parks and onsens too but we didn't have time for them, unfortunately.

Shirahama can be reached from Osaka by many accommodations.

Shirahama can be reached from Osaka by many accommodations. You can use a direct bus from Namba or you can use JR trains to reach there (whether it's local or rapid). The white sand beach was very much worth considering the location near the city (Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Wakayama).

A beautiful beach resort with some great scenery, nice soft sand and clear blue water. Does have some sea weed floating around and watch out for late afternoon when the jelly fish are around in summer time. When there are less people in the sea - it’s time to get out. There was a fireworks display in the evening with music playing out speakers. Simply amazing to watch from the beach!! It doesn’t happen everyday so plan ahead. There were market stalls providing food in the evening however unsure if it is a daily or weekend occurrence. Local bars/eateries had friendly people , staff and locals alike were nice. There is a family mart just off from the beach front. Some bars are open late. You need to either take a bus from the train station which takes longer but is cheaper or a taxi which is much faster but also more costly- ¥1,500 roughly. It’s too far to walk if you’re staying near the beach and in the summer heat it’s really not recommended. It’s really nice for families , couples and groups of friends. If you’re a solo traveller and you enjoy your own company you’ll be fine.

Nice clean beach (maybe a little small), Good for 1 or 2 day beach trip. The rest of the city interly hotels. Restaurants and city very old (timetravel) ruined atmosphere. Defnitly nothing for shopping or good food. So Beach yes, Rest no

The beach was nice, but crowded the fireworks and candle light event on Saturday was worth it. Not as nice as other beaches I have been to around the world. The water is pretty cold to so not great for swimming. Had fun but wouldn't recommend for a solo traveler. No English directions to get there and the bus is kinda confusing. I would not come back without a rental car

Great owner who helps you in every situation, thank you for beeing so friendly and openminded! The area is great you can easily walk to the beach, supermarket (own cooking), minimarkets, restaurant and bars. Thre are also some bus stops just a few minutes by walk. Everything is clean, you have an area to relax and you are able to use the kitchen. Very cozy place. I highly recommend the shirahama beach. There is a family market directly on the beach, showers, blue water, white sand nice waves, even onsen all you need for a great beach day.

The hotel is quiet and has very good soundproofing, especially for a Japanese hotel. My room was on the ground floor and I couldn’t hear any outside sounds. The room was very clean, larger than expected and has a nice onsen on the property. The beds are wide and comfortable and the room contains a standard unit bath. It is about a 8-10 walk from the beach uphill, there are not any sidewalks, but Shirahama drivers are courteous and the traffic is not heavy in the area. I do not mention this as a negative, just something to be aware of.

Real character property, beautifully kept - it has much more history and style than the bigger hotels. Most of our group had never been to Japan before and started their trip here - their first time with futon beds in some rooms and also their first time going to the onsen. There is plenty of parking - we hired a car to drive to Hongu Taisha shrine and Yumomine onsen. The hotel staff were attentive when required and otherwise so discreet that it felt like we had the place to ourselves. We absolutely loved our stay!

100% recommend. Hotel is very close to the beach and restaurants. Great value for money. Rooms are spacious and clean. No bathtub, only showers, but for me it's a plus, who needs a bath in a beach and onsen resort town? Interior is so great, every small detail adds something to the whole picture. Breakfast is great, it's a Chinese breakfast every day. The owner, a nice Chinese lady, is a great person, she speaks great Japanese. WiFi signal was strong, I had a few Skype calls without a problem.

We were in Shirahama for workcation and seamore residence had good facilities for that. A shared kitchen/working space with secure wifi. We also got access to the main hotel and was able to use their amazing onsen! The hotel is a great place for any sized group/ couples/families with lots of amenities (onsen, nap room, play room, karaoke, golf simulator, billiards, restaurants, music room etc). Guests also had the option to choose our own Yukata from reception. 200% would stay here again.

We were in completely off-season, so only we and another couple was there. We had the hotel and the onsen completely for us, this was really nice! For breakfast there was no buffet, we received per person a own tablet with a lot of nice things, obviously made with love! I‘ve read other reviews and maybe in full seasons it‘s different, but we had really nice stay.

Guest house is a few minute walk to the bus for all transport, restaurants, the beach, onsens…all of which I loved. The property was super clean, quiet, and the manager was wonderful with help in learning about the town and getting around. I had a wonderful, restorative stay. With a mini kitchen in the room, this made for an exceptional value.
