Hotel Playa Cristal, hotel in Catemaco

Located on the shores of Lake Catemaco, this hotel features an outdoor swimming pool and free Wi-Fi. Hotel Playa Cristal also offers free parking and banquet facilities.

We chose the accommodation because of the swimming pool for our son. It was fine. We also took the opportunity to order food and drink to our room. The location was quiet and pleasant, right by the lake and yet close to the centre. On the last day we were able to leave our luggage stored at the reception until the evening.

Amazing location, beautiful in the nature right at the edge of one of the nicest lakes in Mexico. The ritual places and statues are a blast too. It is why I came to here.

We are touring with a hire car and a flexible agenda so cut our trip to catemaco short by a day because we found the town to be dilapidated - very run down an dirty. Actually it was our first disappointment in 3 weeks of touring in Mexico. The one way system was a nightmare to negotiate because random streets were blocked off with rocks and rubble. The lake boat trip we wanted to take we moved from the Catemaco lake to the Reserva Ecológica Manglares del Toztlan and had a wonderful tour of the mangroves about 15km north of Catemaco. We saw ibises, iguanas, turtles, pelicans and it was idyllic with a super friendly and helpful boatman.

    I stayed for 3 nights.

I stayed for 3 nights. Changed hotel, because the room I stayed wasn't available. The lake is nice to look at. I took the lancha tour, a bit disappointed. I went to see the Eyipantla Falls, which I highly recommend. Fairly easy to get to via bus or colectivo taxi. Christmas lights are on in the town, and there's a small skating ring operating in the evening.

Catemaco is a destination for Mexican and other Spanish...

Catemaco is a destination for Mexican and other Spanish speaking tourists. There are very few English-speaking tourists and thus it might be difficult to navigate without some basic Spanish language skills. Points of interest are mostly natural- lakes, secluded beaches, mangroves, waterfalls. Taxis and boats are inexpensive and can take you to any of the points of interest. The beaches on the lake in town are probably not good for swimming, but beaches further out and on the ocean like Barra de Sontecampan are quiet, secluded and clean. Great waterfalls.

The host is very nice and was very communicative before I arrived. Upon my arrival I was upgraded to a private room, because mould had developed in the dorm. I was happy to accept the upgrade. The host also invited me to an event she was organising at her home/other hotel the following evening, which i did attend and it was really nice.

What a great value! We stayed in a lake view room with a king sized bed, and got a great price. The economy rooms looked nice too! The had ice upon request. Gated parking in front of the hotel. Internet was good. Clean swiming pool. Having a good restaurant on the property was a great bonus!

The hotel is very nicely decorated and quite charming. The owner is very lovely and her daughter was so fantastic. She speaks english so she helped a lot with where to go and restaurants in Cotamaco. She berated our taxi driver who over charged us and so he returned some of the money.

Friendly staff, good maintenance of everything, great shower with much water pressure, very clean. Located directly in the center of Catemaco, close to all restaurants and not too far away from the lagoon and the public transportation.
