The property was well maintained and very clean. Great location two minutes drive from the main gates of Chichen Itza. In the centre of a small town, with plenty of places to eat within a two minute walk. The staff were really helpful and the rooms are based around a small pool in a courtyard setting. Parking is very secure behind a large metal gate. Three very cute dogs live on site which makes it feel all the more homely! <3 Really great value for the amount paid. Don't judge on the very good price - Highly recommended.

This hotel was such a wonderful place to be. Set back from the main road, with all the buildings nestled in the trees. We stayed in the suite and it was so lovely for the price. Staff were very helpful and sweet. The upper pool area was very relaxing and we had lunch served to the beach beds. Not sure what’s going on with the bigger lower pool, looked a bit dilapidated but didn’t bother us because we used the other one. You need a car there. We went to Chichenitza one morning at 8:30 and beat the crowds, it’s about 10 mins away by car.

Get there early and head to the Osuary complex so you can have it all to yourself. Most people go the other way. The night show was cool, but not required, the daytime is a requirement for every explorer!

Stay in Valladolid and drive-- or better yet stay in Piste- and walk to the ruins and get there when they open at 8am. On the Sunday morning we arrived at 830am, there were less than 25 people that we could see-- total-- and no vendors yet. Our photos of the main pyramids have literally zero other people in the background, and we saw lots of colorful birds and enjoyed the empty grounds.
By the time we left at 11:30am, there were 3 or 4 thousand people there, mostly arriving on tour buses from Cancun, and the vendors were aggressive and noisy and it was less appealing of a destination. YES get there as early as possible.

Always impressive to visit but too crowded and touristy the last couple of times. The parking lot was only available for tour vans and buses so struggled outside to find a parking spot. Had to walk 600 meters to get to the ticket booth. Next time I'd go as early as they open to avoid crowds, heat and parking issues.

Chichen Itza is amazing!
Chichen Itza is amazing! Well worth suffering the heat and bugsI (even in February)
There are lots of vendors selling their wares. I've read that they are not usually handmade, which would explain why so many things were only ONE Dollar! Heard someone say not to buy wooden masks etc as they would not pass customs.
Bring: hat, bug spray, sunblock, water.
C.I. is very isolated. There are tour buses that take you from Cancun to CI.
It's a full day and usually about $120 dollars. Be careful not to confuse dollars and mexican pesos. At this time the peso is about 20 cents so 100 pesos is $5 dollars. I recommend bringing a debit card and some mexican $. ( Can be purchased beforehand at AAA)
Wear sturdy closed toe shoes as it is very dusty and rocky. No stairs, however. If you take a tour, they will feed you lunch about 2 pm. Bring snacks if you are accustomed to eating lunch earlier.
Be on top of your email and messages as the tour originally said they would pick me up at my hotel, but changed to another hotel the day prior to the tour.
If you don't take a tour, I would rent a car. Bus and taxi connections aren't the best. I took a taxi from Mayalands hotel to Valladodid for about $35. Then I took a bus to Cancun central bus station, then a taxi to the airport. I spent about $75 and it took the better part of the day.
Taxi's from Mayalands to the airport run about $200 US.
BTW, the tour takes you to a cenote where you can swim. Bring your suit and a towel, plus water shoes. The trek at ILKIL was about 100 stairs and slippery.
One last thing, as of February 2022, one must wear a mask in Mexico ALL THE TIME.

It’s definitely worth it booking a tour guide as there’s so many details that need to be pointed out in order to appreciate the experience. Though most guides seemed to be asking for 900 pesos, which felt too steep. So we were actually very lucky to find a guide called Miguel who goes around in a little car (as he’s disabled), who charged us 500 pesos and gave us an amazing tour.
Also, you’ll find there’s LOTS of art & souvenirs for sale, and they’ll quote you double the price if you can’t speak Spanish… so I’d suggest waiting until the end and buying whatever you like after you’ve seen all the stalls and haggle!

This ancient Mayan ruin is well preserved and maintained.
This ancient Mayan ruin is well preserved and maintained. Kukulcan is amazing but you cannot access or climb it. Doing this ruin with a guide was essential as the experience would have been much less without the knowledge a guide has.
Huge room, nice pool. Friendly supportive staff. Dream-location near the temples, with the sounds of the jungle.
Restaurant appeared to be very good and we returned there even. We don't do that normally. Also, during the day
you can have lovely snacks/drinks at the pool which is great when you come back after some hours at Chichen Itza, which
is really nearby and you can be there, long before the crowds come. We loved it !
The hotel was 2km and a 6 minute drive to Chichen Itza so perfect to visit the site and get there when it opened at 8am. This was the reason we booked this hotel so was pefect for our needs! The food was basic but fine and what we expected from this hotel. The breakfast consisted of tea, coffee and eggs with bread. The pool was a nice touch but the loungers weren't very clean.
- Beautiful hotel. Pretty rooms and beautiful garden and swimming pool (which opens very early, very nice to do some workout before starting the day!).
- Quiet.
- Super close to Chichen Itza! Perfect if you want to arrive for the opening (which is highly recommended if you want to avoid the crowd and too high temperatures).
- Very nice staff.
- Delicious breakfast.
Everything was fine except for the fact that we had to pay US$ 14.70 (Pesos 292.-) for 2 cups of filter coffee and 2 refills (early in the morning before going to visit “Chichen Itza”). This price is completely ridiculous!
When we complained the front desk woman was quite unfriendly saying that is just the way it is… 🙁☹️
Beautiful hotel and room. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed. Located not far from Chichen Itza, but not within walking distance. We used a car. The hotel has parking. Generous breakfast. Good internet. There's a pool and a little garden around.
The property has its own wild style, very authentic and with jungle atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and fouthcoming. Place has good location to reach Chichen Itza. And has no nearby neighbours - might be good for events (has enough open space for it).
This is a gorgeous, stylish hotel with a lot of history. The view from our room was incredible. Everything was clean and tidy and the food was excellent. The Chichen Itza tour guide organised by the hotel was knowledgeable, professional and friendly.
Luis is an amazing host, he welcomed us with fresh lemonade, prepares amazing breakfasts and has great advice on what to do around Chichen Itza.
We absolutely loved his garden, his dogs and recommend anyone to come and stay with him and his family.
If you're going to Chichen Itza this is a great place that is pretty close but not tied up in hustle, bustle. Seemed super safe, (our car was behind a closed gate. The hosts were marvelous including the pet deer. The facilities were spotless.
Luis is an amazing host, kindhearted , superfriendly and made us feel like home! magnificent host, amazing breakfast, good location. Also Luis gave us good suggestions while visiting Chichen Itza and nearby cenotes. Thank you!
We really liked the location of the hotel in the jungle, big pool, which you can use even in the evening hours and welcoming personal. We also appreciated bikes for rent, which we used for the trip to Chichen Itza.
The hotel is amazing, you feel like an old time explorer and a bit like Indiana Jones.
The view of the observatory building at Chichen Itza through the doorway and stairwell window is awe inspiring.
The property is cute, well designed and very comfortable. Conveniently located in the town of Pisté, it's close to restaurants and the ruins at Chichen Itza.
