Basco is the capital of Batanes province.

Basco is the capital of Batanes province. Lots of places to stay and eat, good coffee shops. Not a party town, very quiet after 1800 hrs. Life is very simple and slow here. Crime is extremely rare here.

Mostly very good but beware of any deals made.

Mostly very good but beware of any deals made. We would be quoted one price for renting an ATV at the beginning but when time came later to pay price changed - higher of course. Be careful doing business. The premier restaurant in Basco was far short of premier- beautiful view - service and food were a joke. Another restaurant- Italian - food was good but took 40 minutes just to get hot tea. While we were there a party of a dozen or so Chinese came in and waited for at least 25 minutes and were never served - they finally gave up and left.

Breathtaking Basco! You exceeded our expectations.

Breathtaking Basco! You exceeded our expectations. The best part is the local people and their culture. I wish the entire Philippines would learn from how you’ve protected the environment, respected Mother Nature, and maintained your culture even though you’ve open your doors and shared your beauty with the rest of the world.

The sites you will cherish for life, but the food is forgettable especially in the islands. There aren't restaurants around to go to. so be prepared to have your supplies (and food items) with you.

Basco is a quaint little city.

Basco is a quaint little city. We spent 2 days touring the north and south side of Batan Island and my favorites are all the rolling hills, lighthouses and scenic views. We didn't get to visit Sabtang Island anymore because of the strong waves and rain. We ate mostly at our hotel - Batanes Amboy Hometel. Delicious homecooking where we got lots of great local food, and I loved their grilled fish, pasta, Filipino noodles, and their breakfast buffets. We also got to try the famous Cafe Du Tukon at Fundacion Pacita - much finer food than your usual food in Batanes. One minute away from Batanes Amboy Hometel is a famous pizza place called Casa Napoli. Getting around Basco is OK. There's a tricycle company that you can call (or ask your hotel to call) - BATODA. It cost us Php 60 for 3 pax from the hotel to the town proper. It's Php 180 for 2 pax from our hotel to Fundacion Pacita.
