A rather unusual place to stay.
The interior is decorated with various historical elements and is very rich in detail, but it also had all the modern conveniences. The room was particularly large.
Breakfast was very good with the host's comments and friendly conversations.
Parking right outside the building.

We were here for a residency interview with SEF, the immigration agency. We didn't stay long enough to have a big opinion, but the place we stayed was nice, and we had a great vegan meal at Hokkaido, a restaurant in town. We parked right by the castle. The churches were beautiful too.

Small city where you can go anywhere on foot or by bicycle,...
Small city where you can go anywhere on foot or by bicycle, but consider that is very hot in the Summer and cold on Winter. There are dozens of places to eat and try the rich and splendid Alto Alentejo gastronomy.
The Historical Center is not so big, but it's well preserved with some old palaces and lots of traditional houses (Alto Alentejo's traditional architecture).
The Portalegre's Museum is a must with a gorgeous Sacred Art collection. It has also an important Portuguese Faience collection and the biggest Ratinhos Ceramics and Tobbaco Ceramic Boxes exposition that I have seen so far.
The Cathedral is WOW!! There are 96 fantastic italian paitings from the second half of the XVI century (Maneiristas).

Interesting town. Very much liked the Tapestry museum. The Restaurante "O Escondidinho" was very good. Owner speaks excellent English and the food is varied and well cooked. We couldn't resist the "biscuit cake" - gorgeous!

The city is quiet and safe to visit.
The city is quiet and safe to visit. However, the Rede express officer at the bus station was unfriendly. He requested me to pay twice for the same trip because of the error of their officer who put a wrong departure time on my first receipt. He even answered me rudely in English saying "I don't speak English!"
Superb apartments almost in the center of town. The apartment was huge and has plenty of room for a family of 4 (double and bunk beds). The shower room was huge. Everything felt very clean and new. Check in was via the recption desk at the hotel just down the road from apartments. Staff were friendly. My only complaint is that they don't allow bikes inside even though there was plenty of room. Bikes are kept in the courtyard/garden to the back of the property, which is safe enough if locked.
Continental breakfast was supplied to our fridge daily with fresh bread delivered to our doorstep each morning. Friendly staff, and resident dog, Ruca was extremely welcoming and we were fortunate to witness the lambing season, all on site. Surrounded by unspoilt countryside. The historic towns of Marvão and Castelo de Vide a short drive, and no shortage of hikes to be had in the São Mamede National Park. Portalegre is a good sized town with at least three supermarkets.
What a gem of a place!! We had to be in portalegre for an appointment on monday and decided to go a couple days early. I had stayed in a hotel in town before and was weary of short term apartments! The hotel was booked so we found this place. We were SOOO pleasantly surprised. Jaime and his wife were so kind and welcoming. The apartment is absolutely gorgeous, so well designed, has every ammenity you need and perfectly located! We will definitely be back here!
Manager tricked me at portalegre hotel. I wasnt going to wait out in the cold for a liar and trickster. I left and found another hotel. I called poluce and he lied to.police and only saud he cane 11 minutes late which was a lie. Police wouldnt prosecute. I will complain to interpol. He caused me great financial loss and gaony. You should dump the luar and con artist from.your booking list
Incredible historical property providing a quintessential Alentejo experience. The property despite historical/old is very well kept, and you can see how much attention to detail has been put by the (very kind) property owners in every corner. The swimming pool is absolutely outstanding, merging perfectly into the Alentejo background, giving a sense of freedom and harmony.
A nice hotel, spacious and spotless rooms, very welcoming and friendly (Portuguese style:-) in a wonderful town. Portalegre surprises like the alentejo wines, robust yet elegant, nostalgic for the past yet hungry for more. A city in transition, waiting to be discovered and enjoyed!
Also the breakfast was amazing...
It was a beautiful hotel. The room was well done with comfortable beds, linens, lots of wood and tile, and we had a balcony overlooking the pool and farm land. The breakfast was great with made to order eggs and breads and cheese, yogurts, etc. There were also many good restaurants in Portalegre nearby.
Portalegre is not really a holiday destination, it happened to be a convenient overnight halt on our route. As a result the choice of a nearby restaurant was extremely limited. However the rooms were of good size, warm and reasonably well equipped if a bit dated. A good breakfast was welcomed.
Breakfast was very good a good selection fruit yoghurt bread with cooked eggs bacon and mushrooms.
Parking at the rear in the garden.
The decor of the hotel finished to a high standard in a traditional style
Spatious rooms with garden access to pool
Had an amazing one night stay here. a lovely welcome with nice homemade treats, fruit from the garden. Our little terrace looked over the olive trees and neighbours sheep’s. Such a quiet, nice place te be, while being just minutes away from Portalegre.
The location couldn't be better. Bang in the centre of Portalegre. 3 Large bedrooms, a superb kitchen, a big shower. But the biggest asset is the location - and the price is hard to beat. This will be my first choice for future visits to Portalegre.
This hotel is located in the centre of Portoalegre, it is modern and finished/decorated to a high standard.
The rooms are comfortable and quiet with good blackout curtains.
Breakfast was varied and generous.
the hotel was spotless clean. it was a lovely hotel and quite comfortable with a balcony overlooking the city. the staff were very kind and helpful. the breakfast was absolutely amazing!
Breakfast was very nourishing. The hotel is in a quiet location - ideal for a peaceful experience.
The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had an excellent stay.
Everything. Room was big and comfortable. Breakfast was amazing with homemade dishes. The staff was extremely helpful. I fully recommend this jewel in Portalegre
The hotel is very well located in the heart of Alentejo. Friendly staff. The room is cozy and very well decorated with every appliance you will need. Fast wifi.
