This property is situated in a small village which is a good starting point for the route of the historical villages. Despite the language barrier, as we do not speak Portuguese, we had no problem communicating. Our host Laura Mendes is a charming, attentive person who makes the best coffee in Portugal and a good breakfast. Her son who speaks English helped us when we arrived with all of the information. Provisions can be found in the village or close by at Orca, there is a small grocery and restaurant or there is the town of Lardosa not too far.

Beautifully renovated property in the countryside. Wonderful staff who went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful stay. We are travelling in off season so hotel was not busy. Thank you especially to Claudia and to the chef you stayed later to prepare and serve us dinner. Excellent beds, spacious rooms with small patios.

The Casa Pires Mateus is located in the Historic Village of Monsanto. It is a characteristic house recently rebuilt keeping the traditional style of the village with its exterior granite walls.
Located 1148 ft from Monsanto Castle, Casas da Villa- Monsanto offers free WiFi and units equipped with a kitchenette, seating area and flat-screen TV.
It is a very small village. We stayed here because it was 25 minutes from Monsanto and the accommodation looked so nice. We stayed on a Sunday night and a pizza shop was all that was open. We didn’t have any food with us, luckily we like pizza. There are very few shops.
Roads are narrow, parking was easy.

Lovely little village with a good selection of bars and restaurants. The people are really friendly and helpful. It's well located for sightseeing and hiking. It has more facilities than most villages in the area e.g. 3 mini markets, 2 excellent bakeries, post office, ATM and pharmacy.
