First the lodgers are living close and answer immediately to requests. The garden was extremely well maintained and safe for kids or pets. A large parking after driving small roads. Nice area to sit in front of the door. The lodgings seem bigger than they are.

Soajo is a great gateway to the surrounding Peneda-Gerês national park. It is accessible by public busses from Arcos de Valdevez central station (see https://www.avic.pt/home), and close to trails.
The town has minimarket and two bakeries, so it is easy to buy anything one needs. It is also nearby the barrage and the town of Lindoso with a castle. The villages in the area also have famous Espigueiros.
The area is home to famous Portuguese Garrano horses and antique cattle breed of Cachena cows.
People are very friendly and helpful, and the scenery, specially the dramatic ravines and dells, are iconic.

Awesome points of interest, you can have a swim by the 3 river spots on the village, walk and hike on the forests nearby as well as appreciate a sunset by the rock with the "Espigueiros". Unfortunately, no vegan food in the local restaurants, most of the places you need to pay with cash and they often close really early in the evening, so be prepared. Oh and watch out for the cows (and cow poop) as they can literally be everywhere.

Soajo is a pleasant small town.
Soajo is a pleasant small town.
Driving there is not difficult, do not drive fast just in case you come across a few long horned cattle or horses grazing by the roadside or a flock of sheep making their way home.
There is a small grocery store and across the street is a coffee/snack bar.
There are three restaurants in Soajo, but they alternate the days they are opened.
The townsfolk offer advice and help, I speak Portuguese so that was easier with communication. Shops are closed at certain hours and restaurants hours vary.
The espigueiros are granite grain drying/storages dating back to the 1700's. The cross on these granaries (I was told by a local) signify a blessing for the harvest, hopefully a deterrent for thieves and during the Napoleonic Peninsular War when French troops raided every village they came across, these crosses fooled the French into thinking the granaries were tombs. Thereby saving the people of Soajo from starvation.
If I travel there again I would stay longer than a night and probably prepare my meals.
If you want a location which offers tranquility in a mountainous region, safe environment, great hiking and to stay among people who enjoy working their lands and tending their livestock then Soajo is a place you must visit.

Soajo has its own and unique genius loci of more than thousand years old stone village. When you are in the central suqare you may feel you travelled back in time few centuries. On the other hand you have all the comfort of few restaurants, a grocey store, hardware store, ATM and tourist info. Not mentioning the iconic cemetery with typical sarcofaguses. I can only recommend you stay few days there making treks in the surronding natural park.
