they really went out of their way to make me welcome. They even made me a soup with bread and fruit for only 10 euro so that instead of driving back into the main town I could rather enjoy a walk in the mountain. it is beautiful and DEFINATELY worth a visit for any traveller along that route.

It is a nice place to stay with spa facilities, ideal for a little escape.
Good breakfast. There is a restaurant, and the meals are ok, but a little expensive.
If you like tranquility and calm days I would recomend you to stay only from monday to friday, because in weekends the hotel and facilities are very crowdy, to much guests for me.
We've stayed from thrusday to saturday and the difference was huge, even the breakfast was very much enjoyable in friday than saturday.

The location was by far the best aspect of this Hotel. The outdoor pool is very nice and the extended opening hours of the coffee/bar are convenient.

Situated just outside of Chavez and near the Spanish border, this is a perfect jumping-off point for journeys around northern Portugal, and seems to be a hub of activity around the town, especially the restaurant. The restaurant was lovely and had huge portions of regional cuisine. The staff is incredibly nice, and the proprietor is a genial host. Just a great slice of life in northern Portugal.

I had to do a really fast road trip to Lisbon from France...
I had to do a really fast road trip to Lisbon from France and decided to split my drive back going along the north via Porto instead of the shorter more direct but rather boring drive I came along. I made the booking last minute and it was such a pleasant surprise to drive up a rather long granite cobblestone road to a really beautiful little village. I was able to go for a long walk in the mountains, found wonderful herbs from the area and then could just sit in the sun and read my book under an olive tree. Dinner is not included and the staff must have seen the dismay in my face when they told me that restaurants were in the town below, another drive which I was not looking forward to so they offered me homemade soup and wicked but yummy local bread. It was refreshing to go from upbeat ( and wonderful but still a city) Lisbon to this magical little place. Excellent value for money comfortable with little touches such as olive soap, a toilet spray ( we lived in the Middle East so are spoilt). I could really have done with a few more days listening to sheep bells tinkle past and learn more about the food and lovely fresh produce which was served at breakfast. The locals were terribly friendly. DEFINATELY a stop on the way just before Chavez. It is likely hot in summer but spring was glorious. The black out curtains really helped so I could sleep well. 11/10 stars 🌟
