Staff (owner):
Owner Remus and wife are kind and friendly people. Remus picked us up from the bus stop, and dropped us at the bus stop the next morning when we were leaving. He also offered to drive us to buy dinner if we needed to (although we decided not to as we still had some food with us).
Both shared with us some information about tea and also brought us to view tea plantations and helped with some photo-taking on the day we arrived.
Facilities:
Room and bathroom were very big and clean.
There was a water dispenser outside the room for you to fill hot water, so you can make drink in your room.
No breakfast but 7-11 card (Twd50) provided for each guest.
My purpose staying here is to visit the tea plantations, so it was very kind of the owner to bring us for a brief visit to view tea plantations when we arrived.
Providing a shared lounge, Golden Leather Carving Studio offers accommodations in Leye. With mountain views, this accommodation features a terrace.

Our host Jin is superb friendly and helpful. She tried her best to help us and make sure we are comfortable during our stay. Her husband and she even went beyond their way to help us commute to the bus stations and rescued us from a missed bus on a rainy day. Their foods were amazing in a home-cook style. Highly recommended their homestay and the services.

the hotel is located about 40 minutes outside of alishan recreation area, which means you won’t make it for sunrise unless you have your own car.
that being said, there’s a couple of viewing platforms and trails within walking distance that are a great option for sunrise/sunset. it’s about a 15-20 minute walk from the nearest “town” (aka 7/11) but there are a few little restaurants nearby to grab dinner or breakfast. if you’re planning to take a bus to/from alishan, there’s a stop conveniently located like right outside the hotel which is nice.

They upgraded us from a double room to a quadruple room - for free! The front desk staff were very helpful in explaining to us how to watch the sunrise at Alishan and where in the park to visit.

The rooftop swimming pool and bar had a nice view and heated water. The staff were helpful and recommended a great local restaurant nearby. The bath had tea instead of salt to put in the water, interesting touch.

Shizhuo village is a great place to stay as it is on the main road between Chiayi and Alishan recreation area + it offers a beautiful trails.
I had a chance to experience sunset and sunrise thanks to staying for one night and I visited all of the trails between Shizhuo and Fenqihu = Mist Trail, Sunset Trail, Sakura Trail (no cherries in the time of my visit unfortunately), Tea Trail, and Cloud Trail. I recommend reading more on a website Taiwanese Obsessed (https://www.taiwanobsessed.com/shizhuo/). I pushed myself on the second day of my stay and did sunrise, few of the trails, hike to the Dadongshan trail (beautiful forest, view on Mt. Jade and also monkeys!!!), walk to Fenqihu for lunch and Logging trail with giant tree and Cedar trail, spot the local scenis train while it was driving through the city, hitchhiked back to Shizuo as it was easier than waiting for bus and locals are very friendly to help and then finished my day and myself with the rest of the trails above Shizuo.
For normal people I recommend maybe 2 nights stay for all of this as I had to be quick to make it all happen before going back to Chiayi.
Bus service was very good on the main road, Fenqihu is very secluded and the bus comes only 2-3 times per day (but there is a train at 11:30 up to Shiztulu, village closer to Alishan recreation area - be careful, the train does not go all the way up to the area at this time!)

Beautiful landscape and nature walks/trails.
Beautiful landscape and nature walks/trails. Friendly people. Could stay much longer next visit. Feel safe as solo female traveler. A bit difficult to get around with public transit due to limited schedules. Would drive next time.

We could see beautiful mountain scenery and watch sunrise and sunset from viewing gallery without having to go up Alishan mountain . The host was very friendly and hospitable and made us feel at home during our stay.
