Guernsey is a great place for history buffs.

Guernsey is a great place for history buffs. We visited the Oregon Trail Ruts National Historic Site and Fort Laramie, but there are more history sites that we didn't have time to see. I could easily spend a few days here exploring, however, this stay was just one night on a multi-state road trip. The countryside around Guernsey is beautiful. With a longer stay, I would check out some hiking trails. The North Platte River runs through town and, at Fort Laramie, the Platte meets the Laramie River. I suspect good fishing. The weather was pleasant when we were there, it probably didn't get over 80, but that's not always the case in late July.

The Oregon Trail Ruts and Register Cliffs are minutes away...

The Oregon Trail Ruts and Register Cliffs are minutes away from this very convenient location. Bring bug spray as both sites are very thick with mosquitos. Also, Fort Laramie was just 20 minutes down the road. This was a very pleasant surprise and the best historical nation park we have visited. Again, bring the bug spray... literally carry it with you as you tour the site.
