The staff was very courteous and getting the shuttle to pick us up at another hotel that was atrocious and they gladly picked us up. Took us to Downtown Portland as well as the train station. The breakfast was excellent, the HH was excellent, the bartender Lauren was great, the shuttle drivers Ashley amd Richie were also great.

This is a gorgeous and rustic lodging right on the ocean and so relaxing!
Hearing the surf at night was amazing. It is a great family destination because there is a full set up for family cooking and being on an island means it is hard to lose the kids. It is set up dorm style so there is a shared men's and women's bathroom with multiple beds in every room. I would not want to fill the room with maximum number of people just to minimize the noise level but it could be done. There is a wonderful "great room" which is a large open space with a circle of chairs around the fireplace as well as kitchen/dining room on the lowest level.
There were some good restaurants on the island as well as a pretty complete grocery store.
We are going to plan a family vacation there for next year to spend a whole week.

once you get past the ferry drop area and just around the corner park your car and enjoy "downtown". Its going to cost a little more to have a lobster roll and fries(20) than on the main land but so what! the view! the people! nice public beach there too. If you didn't bring your car its OK rent a bike or a golf cart...if your there for the day or however long you want to see the "other sides" It is totally different! woods and bogs,We wondered if there was any deer!? rock coastline and indents along the road to take in the view or park to venture out into the water.... then you have a country club? type side and a summer campground type side area and in the middle its like your everyday friendly neighborhood. peaks has an area for everyone to feel comfortable being in. If your bringing your car and driving BE SLOW and CAREFUL. there are kids they live there and they can come out of yards without knowing. some adults tend to forget they are actually walking on the road not a "path" in the woods so watch out for them too. you have to get out of your car and walk around. then you will now HOW they can forget. You have too! If you do anything this one thing you need to do...take a little walk and forget.
This was a good surprise! It was summer muggy and rainy on the afternoon and evening of our stay. Our room faced the water and I slept with the window open! It is a rustic hotel with a huge back porch and lots of rockers. It is a pleasant 1/2 mile walk to restaurants and a grocery store. Facilities are available for you to cook your own meals and clean up after. Coming over on the ferry was a new experience!
The location is awesome! Half mile from the ferry right on the rocky shore and you can hear the surf all night.
Nice common area in great open space by the fireplace on the first floor and a full shared kitchen in the basement which is great for just grabbing coffee or preparing and eating meals with your family.
Everything about the Maine was fantastic. The location is ideal: A quick bike ride/walk from the ferry and it sits directly on the ocean: Views are amazing. The staff (Dawn and her husband) couldn't have been more accomodating...excellent.
It was a wonderful experience that a hotel could never give you. Sitting on the porch at night having a drink with some of the other guest and listening to the surf hitting the rock was very relaxing. We plan on returning for a longer stay.
The porch, the view, the proximity to the seaside island loop, the friendliness of the people, the museum; all in all it was an amazing experience and I wanted to stay longer than my single night!
The Island was very interesting! Just beautiful out there, nice view of the ocean from our room. We loved taking the Ferry to Portland to eat, shop, get tours, and sightseeing!
