Frieburg im Bresigau is located on the edge of the Black Forest and is a good centre for visiting that area. It also has an interesting old town (with a good range of restaurants) a good public transport system and easy access to the surrounding countryside

Freiburg has so much history and a beautiful shopping district with a lot of restaurants very close to transportation. The food is amazing and it is so easy to get around in Freiburg. The people are so kind and very helpful. It is very important that you remember that all shops are closed on Sundays, with the exception of most restaurants. Be sure to have Euros on hand for this day, as a lot of places do not use credit cards. Check out City Park and get awesome views of the city from the tower, easily located by taking Landwasser to the fourth stop at Am Bischofskreuz. It's behind the Studentensiedlung am Seepark or the "Stussie," which is student housing for Freiburg. You have to try the tea and delights at the Turkish bakery, Sevgin. There are a lot of pubs, restaurants and typical German breweries where everyone can find the original taste of southern Germany. Very good nightlife. Loved this city, as I was working from my computer, I needed strong wifi so I chose Freiburg im Breisgau as the base to driving out to different hikes.
