Nice solid hotel to stay for a night or two and visit Avila, friendly staff, and I have nothing to complain. Visitors can park their cars nearby for free or for an additional fee in the hotel garage. A few steps away from the famous Cuatro Postes viewpoint. Not really far from the city walls if you like to walk.

FAQs about hotels in Ávila

A Place to Lift the Soul

When viewed against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains, Ávila is truly a spectacular sight. Its fully intact walls rise majestically from a hill, and the many semi-circular towers and 9 gates give it added character. Begun in the 11th century, these incredible fortifications are the symbol of this UNESCO World Heritage-listed city.

Partly built into the walls are the rather fortress-like cathedral and the Convent of Saint Teresa, erected in honour of the saint whose childhood was spent in a house on the same spot. Her relics are here, making it a popular pilgrimage spot. The city’s biggest festival is also in her honour and includes a colourful parade, fireworks and fights in the bullring.

Teresa entered the Incarnation Convent in Ávila, but found herself at odds with the practices, so founded a new monastery: the Convent of Saint Joseph. Of the city’s other religious structures, the Royal Monastery of Saint Thomas is particularly of note as it contains the tomb of Don Juan, son of King Fernando.

Other Ávila sights include the Torreón de los Guzmanes - a tower attached to the provincial council headquarters – and the Four Columns monument which offers fabulous city views.

The Ávila accommodation on Booking.com includes boutique hotels, traditional guest houses and cheap apartments near the train station.

Avila is quite nice for sightseeing.

Avila is quite nice for sightseeing. My problem is with the food industry. We are vegan and the options for us to eat were poor at best. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The food represented as vegan to us was very poor quality, even at nicer restauraunts.

Avila got its unesco status because of its fortress wall and well deserved too. Wish we could walk on its parapet/battlement all the way round. We ate all our meals at restaurants inside the wall like a lot of other tourists. If you can find fartons for breakfast, they are incredibly cheap and deliciously fresh. I wish we were better informed by the tourist information centre (on same site as our hotel) about the Heullas Teresa de Jesus pilgrimage and be given a booklet to be stamped for our visit (as like for camino).

The hotel was basically next door the the main Cathedral of Avila which is itself built into the famous city wall. I booked a room for 3 nights with a view of the cathedral which was great. I had a very large double-bed which was very comfortable. Breakfast was ok in the morning with the usual selection of breads, fruit, cereals and yogurt...and the usual hot scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages. For those that want to know...the Cathedral bells did NOT chime overnight..or much during the day for that matter...so that was not a problem.

The hotel was luxurious and classy in a beautiful old Spanish style from the amazing restaurant courtyard to the rooms, simply gorgeous. The location was perfect, everything was on the doorstep, from the cathedral to the many good restaurants. We cannot fault this hotel in anyway. Superb staff gave us a warm welcome on a cold windy day in the walled city of Ávila. Hotel has lots of character and provenance. The sense of history is everywhere - none less so than this hotel which was once home to Spain's first democratic president. We were given a free upgrade and the room was delightful in every respect. Breakfast was especially nice. Full marks ... Enhorabuena !

Location near the wall was excellent and the hotel was so nice. The breakfast was very good. We ate dinner there as well and the food was really excellent. The staff was helpful. Not much English is spoken, but a little bit of Spanish and a phone translator program was good enough! We followed the hotel's directions (sent by email prior to our stay) and found the hotel very easily.

We really liked everything about our stay here. The hotel is very well located in Avila in a very recently restored momumental building, the staff are all very friendly and helpful and the room was one of the nicest we have ever stayed in. Breakfast was served at the table (because of low occupancy of the hotel), but again very friendly staff and excellent food.
